Lisp after extraction

#1 Post by Ashybear »

So I recently had 5 teeth removed, 3 of which were impacted wisdom teeth and 2 baby teeth. One of my baby teeth that was removed was at the front of my mouth (not the front teeth, but next to them) and theyve attached an orthodontic device to the impacted adult tooth that was above it. Anyway, now I have a slight lisp when talking. I was wondering if anybody else has had this and does it go away?? Or will I have to wait until my braces are on and they've pulled the adult tooth out of my gums?? Eeeep!

You didn't say when did the extraction happen?
I had an extraction for just a tooth (the 5th counting from the middle) and trust me, my lips became lopsided for the rest of the day. I got lisps, I can't smile or pout without looking like I got a stroke.

I always have had a very slight lisp but I know even just the swelling from when I had my wisdom teeth out gave me more of one although it did go away abit when the swelling went down... My braces have made it worse but it should mostly come right to
I think it will be ok eventually but if u are wondering ask ur dentist or ortho they may be able to help u

Yep!

I had my left top lateral incisor pulled last week and started lisping. Mine was extracted because I had the right one extracted several years back. That one was growing behind my other teeth and posed a breakage risk. While I was still healing and my teeth adjusting to their placement I lisped really bad (and even sometimes spit when I talked ), but once everything settled into place I was back to normal. I'm counting on that happening with this extraction too.

I had the extraction on the 29th of May :-). So almost 2 weeks ago now. I get my braces on in 9 days and I'm thinking that'll just make the lisp worse, but I'm glad it's normal :) thanks guys.

Yer it will take longer than that to get used the braces and my dentist told me that it was normal to find it happening throughout the braces time because of the movement of ur teeth :) but hopefully yours will stop soon for u lol
