NEW HERE: Bleeding After Extractions
Hi guys! Am 31... just got brackets (In-Ovation r) installed on May 10. Just got 4 second premolars removed tday (may 16) at 2pm. Its 10:17 now and am still tasting blood and seeing some bleeding. Some ppl said they stopped bleeding after only a few hours. I took the gauze off to gauge what is going on and am wondering if just some bleeding is ok...
Re: NEW HERE: Bleeding After Extractions
i had premolar extractions too. i had slight bleeding the next day, it eventually stopped 2 days later. So you can just give it more time to heal as long it's not bleeding alot. good luck!
Re: NEW HERE: Bleeding After Extractions
I think a little bleeding, measured in drops would not be unusual because it does take a day or so for the wound to completely seal, and if you are taking NSAIDs (e.g., Motrin) your clotting may be a bit slower, which is to be expected and nothing to worry about. I presume you are following your postop instructions very closely, and wish you a very quick recovery!

A little bleeding is ok. Try putting an ice pack to the side of your face. If it is still bleeding by the end of day 3 or the morning of day 4, I'd ring and explain. I had minor bleeding for about 48 hours after a wisdom tooth extraction last summer. I had another one pulled a month earlier and the bleeding had stopped before I left the clinic.
Re: NEW HERE: Bleeding After Extractions
While I was at the Oral Surgeon's office yesterday (it's "clinic day" at a busy dental school; I was there to talk about my jaw surgery), I overheard a doctor giving post-op instructions to an extraction patient. They said "seeping" for several days was quite normal. The standard for "excessive" was "soak a gauze in five minutes or less."
It doesn't take much blood at all for you to taste it or to make your spit pink.

Re: NEW HERE: Bleeding After Extractions
Thanks for the replies guys! I am so very glad I found this forum. I am of course a few days into wearing my brackets and just got the extractions yesterday (may 16) So I am in that "woe is me, why did I DO this to myself" phase.
The very worst part for me has been the limitations on eating. I am breastfeeding my 5mth old. And well...I like my fod but I love it even MORE now that I am breastfeeding so my appetite is larger. I have already lost 4 lbs since the brackets went on may 10! As I thin already I am not too excited about this at all.
However...it seems things WILL get better. Am trying to look on the bright side for sure! :-) (and plannign a trip to my favorite restaurant once these sockets heal up (and before the wire goes in- June4th, since am sure I will be back to mushy foods for a bit then too!)

I can eat just about anything (except really hard or crunchy foods) now. Within 3 weeks I was eating a near-to-normal diet but I seem to be one of the lucky ones and have had little pain or discomfort.misslou2425 wrote:Thanks for the replies guys! The healing process after my wisdom teeth extraction was more troublesome but even that wasn't bad.
