how to correct a 3mm midline drift without extractions

#1 Post by sweetpea11 »

Does anyone know if a midline drift can be correct to 3 mm. The lateral is not big enough and the two front teeth have drifted along. I am told that braces can only do so much as teeth tend to drift to the middle of the mouth rather than backwards. I was wondering if you could pull a tooth on the other side slightly backwards so that the midline would move alittle more across. Any other ideas??

My upper midline was somewhat to the left and my left central incisor, (narrow) lateral incisor and canine were all crowded.

My ortho did some IPR (filing) of my central incisors and right lateral and then used powerchains to pull the central incisors across to the right, thereby creating more space for the crowded teeth on the left side. This had the incidental effect of reducing the difference in my midline down to about 1mm when it was previously 2 or 3mm.

I understand that midline discrepancies can also sometimes be corrected by the use of elastics.

Hope this helps

Is the 1mm drift noticable??? Could they not pull it over another 1mm for you.Wouldn't it be worth making the right lateral slightly crooked to get the midline right??? How long were you in braces??

Just read you were in braces 6 to 9 months, not that long. I was told 2 years for mine.

I think anybody not getting out a straightedge would have a hard time spotting 1mm drift.

My ortho has just started me with an elastic to correct the midline drift that has become more noticeable since I had my braces he said when I see him in 4 weeks it should be heaps better... I only wear the elastic at night as it virtually wires ur mouth shut lol
