Hi everyone,
I had jaw surgery and braces to fix my bite, and although it looks beautiful, there's a few things I would like fixed:
1 - Tiny gap between my two front teeth. Ortho has tried to fix it though morphing my retainer and things and adjusting the wire behind my teeth but nothing 100% fixed it.
2 - Midline is off. It was dead perfect in surgery, but it has shifted now. Not sure why, ortho says it's my teeth shape?
3 - When I bite down naturally the top cuspid tooth hits the bottom one, and makes me need to shift a few mm's to the right to have my jaw close to the point where my back teeth close right
4 - When I do get the teeth to close, I can only feel contact on the right side, not the left side, of the back molars
I'm worried of going in a second time could increase chances of root resorption and things?
If anyone could provide some insights that would be great!
Thank you!

As long as your teeth are healthy, there is no additional risks associated with getting braces a second or even a third time.
The Ortho will take x-rays of your teeth and jaws and make sure the roots of the teeth look good and that there are no cavaties or other problems. As long as that's the case, there should be no problems.
As always, it's up to you to keep the teeth clean to prevent spots and decay from the front of the teeth around the brackets.

As a dental assistant consider braces for a second time, this made me thing. I've been cavity free since my last run with braces, and I really don't want to go there again.
Thinking about it, braces has to be quite hard on the enamel of your teeth. Sanding down, etching, gluing, ripping off brackets, sanding again. You have to loose quite a bit of enamel doing that. Wonder how many times you can do that before you have a problem?

I have thought about that too. If your bracket falls off during treatment, they have to do the whole sand etch glue thing multiple times or I sometimes hear of people who have brackets repositioned during treatment. I'm not sure what the limit is.
I wanted lingual braces the second time around because I did a really good job of keeping my teeth clean the first time and I have no enamel damage. But low and behold, I have buttons on the outside of almost every tooth to hold elastics and have been that way for over 6 months. I will be really mad if I have damage to my teeth after this.
