ARGGGGGGH, ULCERS EVERYWHERE!

#1 Post by oimysizex »

Had an adjustment on thursday and now my mouth is covered in ulcers i cannot cope! Cannot even eat!! its hard to even speak. The wire is getting caught in my cheeks and i have to physically 'set my cheek free lol. It's caused the whole of my inner cheeks to go all white and ulcerated. I'm sorry for moaning, but I needed somewhere to rant lol. The only relief I'm getting is shoving cotton buds/wool in my mouth, and believe me, that is not an attractive look, hopefully they dont fall out when i speak to someone ha ha, Don't know how I'd explain that one!!! :-*

what are your tips to getting ulcer/("canker sore") relief??????????

If your wire is poking you that bad, you need to call your ortho and get that taken care of immediately.

Rinse your mouth with 50/50 water and peroxide. I use to get canker sores from orange juice acid all the time and this made them go away faster and they stopped hurting as much too.

Both me and my daughter get mouth ulcers whenever we have a dental visit. Braces for some reason have not caused ulcers, even though I get alot of pinching like you do.

For us, we take alot of Vitamin C and take a daily B complex vitamin. We also supplement this with either some sun exposure or about 2000 units of Vitamin D. Salt water rinses are soothing, but nothing works quite as well for us as the vitamins. We think it is all stress related, more then mouth trauma.

Get errant wires clipped, swish with warm salt water often, and wax, wax, wax!! (Sometimes it's the elastics that are rubbing so wax won't help, but wax is a total godsend for anything else!)

Mack's Pillow Soft ear wax....the best ever!

Ya, get those pokeys clipped and have the ortho take a look at the ulcers--you DO NOT have to suffer--you paid the big bucks!! He is just your employee now!!

I agree with klobird. I've gone in to see my orthodontist for sores at times. Sometimes a minor adjustment can really help.

Silicone wax is my very favorite too. I use a lot of the Macks. Just to clarify though, it is a silicone wax 'pillow' that is used to plug ears... it isn't made of ear wax. :D Basically, it is the same as the ortho silicone wax, but much cheaper and you can easily pull the size you need from the larger pieces. I usually get about 3 uses from each piece.

One 'recipe' I had given to me for the mouth ulcers was from a pharmacist. He said it is an OTC version of a prescription. It is to mix equal parts liquid antacid with liquid benedryl. This mixture helps calm the ulcer. If you are having a lot of pain with the ulcer, you can add a third part to the mixture which is something like liquid anbesol. I use a q-tip to apply it. I've had some success with this.

My Orthodontist mixes some doterra essential oils (7 or 8 of them) into some clay for me sometimes. I developed a large tag of skin hanging where sore is this weekend. I called my orthodontist and they mixed up some for me again. I was able to pick it up after work. It helps and the oils make it taste good too.

See if you can buy Benzodent. I have found it at many drug stores in the dental aisle. It is like orajel but it is a paste that will stick and heal your sores overnight! It works like magic! Apply it with a cottom swab.
Good luck!

I treated my sores with generic Gly-Oxide drops to debride the sores (the carbamide peroxide in the Gly-Oxide is much stronger than Hydrogen Peroxide), and used GUM Rincinol (the pharmacy will probably have to order it; Walgreens used to have it, but no more) at night, and wax during the day.

The Rincinol provided a soothing protective film while my mouth wasn't moving at night, and the wax something sturdier in daytime.

We have medijel in Ireland (so probably in UK too) and it is the bees knees. It numbs the whole area.

I suffer from a lot of ulcers too and find it a great help. I've also started taking Centrum multi vitamin which seem to help clear them up

First of all, call your ortho's office. They definitely can snip your wires a little closer. That happened to me and I was really suffering. Went in and 5 minutes later --- RELIEF. Also, I love the GUM brand of braces wax. They have a version that has aloe in it. It sticks really well and the aloe helps heal your cheeks. It also has a gentle spearmint flavor.

You really should go to the ortho even if you are an NHS patient if you are in this much discomfort. The mouth ulcers can become infected or they can leave permanent scaring. I had a bad one last month and put up with it for 3 weeks (lots of wax). My ortho explained to me that in a situation where you have a wire poking causing many ulcers or 1 deep ulcer, it is always best to come in.
