2 weeks post extraction...is this normal?

#1 Post by MissPennyLane »

Hey everyone! I had my lower second bicuspids removed two weeks ago and the healing process was going great. I check the site every other day or so and I noticed that one of the extraction sites looks a little red puffy. Park of the site looks like a tiny ball inside. I should also add that there is no pain around the site. I'm not sure if I was swishing around too hard one day and maybe it caused it to swell or if this is normal during the healing process.

Has this happened to any of you?

I was very lucky and didn't have any problems with swelling or pain at my extraction sites. Do you think you could have gotten some food stuck in there and that could be irritating it? My ortho had me take 2 weeks of antibiotics to prevent infection. Did you have to take any? I would keep an eye on it and if anything gets worse call your ortho immediately.

I don't think so. I was pretty good with rinsing when I would eat. I was always paranoid about getting something stuck in there. I wasn't prescribed any medication afterwards. It's been like this a few days with no real changes that I could see so far. I just assumed I irritated it by 'sucking' too hard when I would try to flush my mouth with water =/

Hello :) I had 4 premolars extracted and also got those little ball looking things. They were pieces of bone cutting through the gum. Like a tiny little piece of tooth that was left in the gum. No big deal for me. They weren't painful unless I picked at it. They work their way out eventually. It sounds to me that's what you have going on ;)

I had a wisdom tooth removed maybe two months ago and the same thing happened to me...I think it is normal. If it starts to hurt, call the office.

I experienced something similar in connection with my extraction of 4 premolars: I didn’t notice anything hurting but I was keeping a close eye to the extraction sites and noticed one site was very red and looked like some kind of inflammation. I went to my regular dentist to check it out and she cleaned the site and gave me some chlorhexidine gel to put on the spot twice a day and it worked great because the redness/inflammation disappeared and I didn’t have any problems after that – hope it works out well for you too
