Teeth dont touch..

#1 Post by 88oscar »

After finishing with my braces and now onto my retainer for the past 4 months...my top front teeth still cant touch my bottom.
I thought over time they will eventually be able to touch but i still cant.
Anyone had the same problem?

So did you start with an anterior open bite? If so, they can be difficult to close, and to keep closed. While mine was closed as a teen, I don't remember it ever having much overlap of the lowers. I do know that much of my adult life was spent with barely touching front incisors....like just 2 if I slid my jaw to one side.

It's better now, but still not over biting as much as desirable. But I can touch several fronts together now pretty tightly.

I would not expect them to come together anymore during retention...in fact I'd expect somewhat of the opposite over time.

Or perhaps yours is the result of your molars not meshing correctly. Retainers can move teeth a little, but I would think the molars are not very moveable.
