I am getting excited! I get my braces in 7 days! I just had my impressions done, and yuck is the word I would use to describe it.
I was thinking it was funny that they offered me a "menu" of flavors that I could choose from for the goop.. Categories were drinks, food and candy. I offhandedly made the comment tothe tech that they obviously catered to the younger crowd. candy?? ewww!
I chose pina colada flavor. Not too bad... not too good... you all know how it feels.
So anyway; while I was waiting for the goop to be mixed up- I looked at my "personalized" computer screen, and noticed that the Dr. will be putting molar build ups on (and here is where I am confused) teeth #18, & #20. Those are both on the same side. Has anyone ever heard of that? only on one side? I don't have any crossbites, or anything like that. My teeth all meet together, and I am just wondering if it was a typo. Thanks for reading this far.. I am sure my issues are very minor to some things I have been reading here on the board.
How exciting!! What kinda are you getting? All metal? ceramic?
First Consultation: July 16th, 2013 Second Consultation: August 21st, 2013 Extractions (Wisdom + baby tooth): August 22nd, 2013 Brace Date: September 4th, 2013 First Adjustment: October 18th, 2013.
Hi! Congrats on the braces! Yes, I was rather tickled at the "flavors" too. I was offered a myriad of options including green apple, grape, and cotton candy among others. I don't even remember what I picked! Thankfully the RDA I got was REALLY good. I read so much about bad gag reflexes and was most nervous about the impressions!
I had 'glue dots' on the molars because of an underbite/crossbite, but a friend of mine WITHOUT evident bite issues had them added onto her lower molars in the late stages of her orthodontic treatment process (she's 22 months in) to help correct some persistent issues with her upper teeth. So... these could be for adjusting something else besides bite concerns?

Yes all those flavors were ava. too... ick.....My impressions went just fine, I was not super nervous about them, just a bit anxious about the gag thing too... thankfully I had zero issues
I know I am having the "bumpers" as my ortho calls them to prevent me from biting the brackets in the front- my concern is that there are 2 on one side and none on the other side. I am almost positive that it has to be a typo on the dr. note screen. I will be confirming this next week when I get my braces for sure.

Congratulations, that's exciting!!! I felt the same when I went in for my impressions and couldn't wait for my bonding appointment a week later.
The molar build ups most likely depend on where your teeth need to be raised so that your bite doesn't close and touch with the upper arch. It's probably not a typo and you should be glad that your Ortho choose that method over a bite plane or bite turbos which serve the same purpose but give you a lisp and are really annoying. I have a bite plate and it sucks.
Anyhow, good luck with everything and welcome to forum.

I will update with pics when I get the braces on for sure! I just have to figure out how to take them.
I am looking for a good app to make a picture "diary" to track my progress.... I have an android phone. Does anyone have any good suggestions for such an app?
I am thankful that I am NOT getting bite turbos after reading about them here on the board! They sound quite annoying and uncomfortable. I am sure I will be fine with the molar buildups... just curious on the location of them. I trust my ortho- so I will see how it goes on the "actual" day... eeeep! coming up VERY soon!!!
I have a droid and use photo grid app. I usually only compare 2 pics....day 1 and current then save it as whatever week it is. I think you can do more then 2 pics though.
