Elastics pressure.

#1 Post by PatientPatient »

I'm almost 2 months into my Damon treatment. I have quite a large open bite on my left side, estimated treatment time, 9-18 months.

I have been wearing elastics from day 1. I had quails for the first month, then after 5 weeks I was moved onto dolphin ones, in a slightly different position.

Last couple of weeks I've been experiencing a strange sensation. Initially, my teeth would ache with a sort of pressure feeling for the first half hour or so of wearing the elastics. Then would ease off and I'd forget that I was wearing them. NOW, its the other way round. Seems strange, but now when I take the elastics off my teeth feel really strange for a little while (20mins or so). But when they're on I don't really feel anything!

Sure this is a good sign, and not worried at all.
I am just wondering has anyone else experienced this?

Quoted- "Initially, my teeth would ache with a sort of pressure feeling for the first half hour or so of wearing the elastics. Then would ease off and I'd forget that I was wearing them."

I usually feel this as well. I think it's because you are getting use to the elastics or the elasticity is wearing off.. (I usually change my elastics every 3 hours or so because they don't feel as tight! haha!) As for the sensation feeling the other way around, I can't say I felt that ever before. Maybe you are use to the elastics and when you take them off they are moving back into the before position hence feeling it the other way around?
Sorry I'm not much help! I hope you can find a better answer. :)

Good thing you are wearing your elastics!! I should be wearing mine right now... haha!! - Thanks for reminding me! Every time I eat a snack I always forget to put them back on. :P

Yeah, is a bit of a strange one. I guess we're all different and have different pain thresholds etc etc. Just thought I'd post and see if anyone else had it too.

This message board has been a great help to me. When you're a little worried, to be able to search and find people experiencing similar things really can put the mind at ease.

I know what you mean about forgetting to put them back on! Plus I'm always leaving them in odd places too, when I take them out to eat.... my poor roommates finding these little stray elastic 'o's in random places around the house

I eventually experienced the same thing. My teeth didn't hurt when my elastics were on, but when I took them out to eat, my teeth felt weird. I think it's the same as when you get the o-rings replaced at the ortho, you feel the release of pressure and it feels weird.

It's nothing to worry about, I think it probably means that you're making progress!

I'm really laughing out loud at this because I CAN TOTALLY RELATE! I'm always taking out my elastics everywhere and I always find them in odd places! One time I went into the bathroom and I found one sticking to the wall by the trash can! How did that happen? HAHA!

I'm sure your pain is just progress, don't worry about it! :)

Yup mine are exactly the same! My bands just came off when I was eating and they ached so bad but as soon as they're back on the pain vanishes :)

Same here. And people always want to return them to me. They'll hand me this tiny o as if it's a lost earring, lol. Seriously, do you know how many bags of these things I own? I could probably open up my own elastics supply store.

I have 4 elastic bands, only 6 days into my treatment so early days yet, maybe I'll feel something similar. :)

I'm on Day 2 of elastics... can't believe how weird it feels! I know it'll be 'the norm' in a week though!

My back teeth ache from them - only eggs for breakfast this morning- and back to no chewing on my teeth... again...
