question about tooth movement...

#1 Post by kids041 »

Does anyone here know how braces actually take a twisted tooth and make room for it without extractions?
My lower teeth have a couple of very rotated teeth, and I understand the bracket placement helps with torque ect. but what I am asking is- I feel like all of my teeth are being compressed together- I am not sure how compression helps with making room for other teeth to straighten out. I just feel like it will cause them to shatter from the pressure. Any thoughts on this would be great in helping me understand.
it is my lower 4 front teeth that I'm wondering about.
Thanks

Your teeth are in great shape, by the way. My teeth were similar, maybe a bit more crowded, and I had IPR--the teeth were "slenderized."

I had a rotated tooth on the bottom row, and I had the same question. I'm not sure how he did it (maybe a special wire) but he made space for that tooth to rotate, and then used another wire to pull them back together. The whole process took a couple months for the tooth to fully rotate.

Hi, I have the same issue and have seen my bottom teeth start to straighten really quickly. I believe the arch wire is slightly larger than the existing arch so the teeth move out a very small amount and in doing so, have more room and can then rotate into a better position.

I'm in the same boat really. I have a few teeth that need to rotate and I have a little crowding too. I'm having IPR to make space as needed, but at present I haven't had any IPR and I presume the wires on my teeth are doing something helpful! :P
