Poll: At What Age Did You Get Your Braces?

Just got mine put on July 23. I'm 52. Didn't get them as a teen but now I can afford them and always wanted straight teeth. My Mom use to say "Be True to your teeth or they would be false to you".

I had them when I was 13, stupidly didn't wear retainer for long enough and they relapsed. So I decided to get them again at 19 and this time I've opted for the 6 month smile and I'm paying for it, so I want that perfect smile!

I'm 6 days into my projected 9 month treatment with 6MS, getting used to the idea now! :D

I'm 49 and got mine earlier this week (9/3). 15-18 months is the time estimate I was given. I LOVE my orthodontist...I mean...talking football smack in the office is fun!

Anyway, I have ceramic clears on top and metal on the bottom. My bands are orange and blue (GO BRONCOS!). Eating is still not a whole lot of fun, but I have a few spare pounds I could afford to see go away.

So glad to see I'm not the oldest one either!

I was, 13 years old when I got my braces. What age did I get mine off? 19!!! Yes, that is 6 years of wearing braces. I was a very irresponsible teenager. I missed and blew off orthodontic appointments like no other, sometimes going as much as 4 months without seeing the orthodontist. Only good thing that came out of this was my teeth set quite well.

Hi I'm new. I'm 33 and just got my braces 3 days ago. Hoping they only take 6 months to straighten...Fingers crossed!

This time I'm 25. But it first started when I was nine (2 years of just removable appliances) then thirteen (2 and a bit years fixed braces) and then eighteen for 9 months. Not the best!

I just started my treatment on October 9th. Right now it is just the lower arch, and I go back on the 22nd for the upper arch.

This is my 3RD TIME!

I had braces as a teenager from age 13 to 17, and never finished treatment due to changing orthodontists while bouncing between parents. I had them removed to join the Army.

I got them again in July 1999, had the uppers only for about 3 months before the lowers were done. Got them off in March 2001. I had some concerns about my rear teeth not touching properly, but the Ortho said it was fine, and took them off.

12 years later, I am having jaw clicking, and some significant wear on the lower front teeth. They hit the upper teeth, and I have to rock my jaw from side to side to get molars to make contact. I had two consultations, one with the Ortho that my sons are seeing, and one with a different guy that a friend had seen.

Ortho #1 didn't think he could provide the results I wanted, Ortho #2 does SureSmile, and said it could be done.

So, here I am, about to turn 47 next month, and in braces for the 3rd time.

I got mine on two weeks ago tomorrow, and I'm still kind of hating them (Incognito). I'm 37 years old, and my ortho estimates that I'll have them for about two years. I'm hoping for much, much less than that, but I've got a significant bite problem.

I was pretty nonchalant during the consultation, records, etc. and during the 2 hour appointment to have brackets bonded on the lower arch, and an initial suresmile scan done. Then after I tried to eat something I was like "dang, I forgot how much a pain-in-the-you-know-what it is to eat anything". And this is just with half on.

I also forgot that I preferred the ligatures to be figure-eight tied so there is something between the brackets and my cheeks.

I did opt for the InOvation-C ceramic brackets for the top. Its not that I care if they are visible, its just they have a much lower profile.

I'm not really going to know how long this round will be until the full scan is done and I can sit down with the doc. I do know I need at least one gold crown replaced on my upper left 1st molar when they come off. It was done by a dental student when I was in graduate school, and it is rather featureless as far as dentition goes.

I have a posterior open bite, and some tipping of the molars on each side, and a bit of a crossbite on the upper left.
