Gum graft done, braces booked!

#1 Post by Sallee »

After 2 years of waiting for 'the right time' I recently came to the conclusion I need to just go for it. I'm the 38 yr old mum of 1 great 4 yr old, and this has been a crazy couple of years. Losses and illness in the family, and just this month I had a 2nd trimester miscarriage. I figured I might as well take advantage of not being pregnant so I had my gum graft yesterday, and booked my braces for in 6 weeks.

Wish me luck! I've cancelled everything so often, but this time the graft is done, and all that stands between me and 3.5 yrs of braces (to stop my top teeth grinding the bottom ones to nothing) is 6 weeks healing time, and a 1 hr ortho appointment on October 15th.

Thank you! It is incredibly sad, but I have to say this sore mouth gives me something else to think about. Plus I'm a big emotional eater but I'm finding it's just not worth it with this pain. That has to be a plus. I guess it will be the same when the braces go on!

Oh you poor thing, I am so sorry for your loss. I bet your mouth is sore right now too, so I'm sorry for that as well! I had bone grafting, ridge augmentation, implant surgery, and gum grafting done a couple of months ago and my goodness that hurt. The incisions in my gums and the stitches afterwards were so painful. Luckily, the pain gets so much better after the stitches are removed! Congratulations on taking the plunge into orthodontics! I just had my braces removed a couple of days ago and I am ever so glad I did it. Having braces sucks, but having straight teeth is awesome!

Thank you for your kind message. I hope I'm not coming across flippant about my situation- I'm just forcing myself forwards.

That's a lot of work in one go! Wow you must be happy to have it over with! Congratulations on having your braces off! I can't even picture that day right now :)
