Ummm just 5 months?

#1 Post by msw »

So I just posted this in the Invisalign forum, but there isn't much activity there and I'm obsessing over this recent news from my dentist. Any feedback would be much appreciated. Sorry for the repost!

---

Hey y'all. So after my initial consultation last week, my dentist called today to tell me that my ClearCorrect treatment plan would include just 3 aligners on top and 5 aligners on the bottom for a total of 5 months of treatment. This is for a relapse case, and obviously I'm ecstatic that I won't have to go back into metal braces. But the really short treatment time has me wondering if I should get a second opinion? Is that even enough time to move the roots?

I guess my teeth aren't that bad? My top retainer (Hawley) still fits even after 13 years, although it is a bit tight. My bottom retainer fits completely on one side, but I can't even get it down on the other side. I have crowding on the bottom and my deep bite has started to come back, but I suppose this is a rather quick fix if he's saying only 5 months?

I go back next week for records, X-rays, pictures, and additional information. Is there anything in particular I need to make sure to ask?

Thanks, y'all! I am SUPER-EXCITED to start getting my old smile back!

I'm a little confused about the 3 aligners top and 5 aligners bottom equaling 5 months? I'm in Invisalign, not Clear Correct, but I thought they were similar in that you wear each aligner set, top and bottom, for two weeks and switch. Do they have you wear them for four weeks instead?

All that aside, I know that Invisalign markets an "express" system of either 5 or 10 trays for situations of minor correction, such as the relapse issue you mention, so it may be that you do in fact need just a few aligners to straighten things out. If you have any concerns, however, it never hurts to get a second opinion. For the most part these are free visits (at least in the US), so if you can get one before you are due to sign on the dotted line I'd definitely do it!

Yeah, at the initial appt., he said 3 weeks in each set of aligners. Apparently ClearCorrect has a "phase 0" during which you wear a passive aligner to keep your teeth in place before the active aligners are made and to get you used to having the things in your mouth. Which I guess makes sense?

ClearCorrect has similar express systems called Limited 6 or Limited 12.

Well, it sounds like your total movement that needs fixing isn't much, so a short treatment time makes sense to me.

How wonderful that your treatment is only 5 months! I am not familiar on clearcorrect, but I had inquired about invisalign as I have moderate crowding on my bottom and my bite is slightly off on the left side. I was told that I would be wearing the trays for at least 18 months if I went that route, so I am now in traditional braces for a treatment time of 8-10 months. I went to about 4 consultations total and they all said that invisalign is great for certain cases, but not for my bite issue. I would agree that your case may just need minor adjustments. Keep us posted on your treatment!
