Coming off! But, a power chain with 6 days left???

#1 Post by jessieg »

I'm getting my braces off Wednesday. Had the appointment to do my impressions on Thursday and my ortho put a power chain on. First of all, I'm not really sure what it's for, secondly, what can it do in six days??? I could see if it was my last month maybe but kinda seems pointless now. Anyone know the point of this?

Maybe your ortho doesn't want any new gap developing, so it may be a preventing measure, not a fixing one.

I agree with JillD. If there is not an apparent issue, it might be just to prevent and maintain everything.

Hmmmm ok. I guess I just figured what can possibly happen in six days good or bad. The worst part is, my teeth hurt more after getting that on than they did the day I got my braces on!! Good grief. Almost there.....

I am going to assume the powerchain is to help the teeth get a good tight fit. When they take impressions for the retainer, your teeth will be perfect.

Powerchains do hurt at first. It feels like someone is hugging your teeth really tight. But with a few more days left, whats a little pain?

Good luck!

When I had braces the first time, my ortho used powerchains during treatment as well as pre-debanding. (He also used a torturous process of essentially wiring my jaws shut overnight with elastics. I literally couldn't pull my teeth apart.) He said it was "to make sure everything was nice and tight" for the retainer impressions. Maybe your ortho is using powerchains in a to a similar end? At least you're not getting the 'wired-shut' treatment

Good luck with your debanding

I too had a power chain up until the very end during my first go-round.

That is so exciting that you're almost finished! Congratulations!
