Run your tongue along the front of your teeth and appreciate how smooth they are.

15-18 month sentence, official time in braces was 18 months, 3 weeks, 3 days

Definitely prepare for the tight pain and all the cuts that will be in your mouth! The first day I got my braces I wasn't use to them so they scraped against my lips and cheeks haha!
Don't be worried if you have regrets. A lot of us did. When braces first go on and they feel so big and uncomfortable! It won't last, as soon as you start seeing movement you'll be so glad you did it!

I agree with Starfish! You may have buyer's remorse at first, but remember our words: IT WILL PASS! Another piece of advice for the 1st month: be patient. I checked my teeth every chance I got, and would get discouraged by the lack of movement. I didn't really start seeing any significant change until after my first adjustment, when they bumped my wire up a size. Since then, I have been loving it! Every day I am seeing or feeling something different and noticing encouraging progress.
Treat yourself to one of your fav burgers, & savour the experience of being able to bite into it - yummmm Burgers just don't taste the same when you have to cut them up
