Re: Profile Changes
Hi Jon,
I can see what you want to acheive here but I really must warn you, moving teeth will make your profile sunken, your top jaw is what is keeping your profile straight between your nose and chin, in your paint picture its further back but still straight. I have an under bite, my bottom jaw is further forward than my top jaw, and after having 4 premolars extracted and braces to pull the teeth back, my profile is sunken in! I don't mind as i have a big nose too Ive accepted my face, straight teeth were more important but it is noticeable and i think that is what would happen to you, plus im a girl and dont think this profile is very girly ill try and add a picture if you like? You are handsome and your face is practically perfect as it is, very defined and manly, pretty much identical to the photo you posted of your idolised face. I think your only option would be plastic surgery. You are so so very close to that ideal image, its not like your way way off or anything. I know words from a stranger off the internet cant really change your opinion and how you see yourself but i just had to add my thoughts. Your jaw is perfect there, I hope you will see that!! I dont think orthos will get involved but a plastic surgeon probably would, but thats a bit drastic for only a few mm difference as you've worked out. I hope you get sorted in the end, not liking your face for whatever reason does affect your life in a big way no matter what anyone says.
Good Luck,
Abi

Re: Profile Changes
hii, thanks for the reply
i saw your blog, burt it doesnt show any profile picture, but from ive seen youre really beautiful, dont mind how you were before thet reatment.
about the sunken in profile, there are two things that counts in my favor, first is my small nose. You can see in the profile pics that my nose is not big, its even shorted by the position of the superior lip. The other thing is my lip thickness, it think that it would prevent a sunken in profile..
do you mind to post a pic of your profile? after and/or before the treatment? sayin again, by your frontal photo, it seems that your face is really beautiful, i dont think that your profile must be sunken in as you said..
thanks

Re: Profile Changes
I think you are going to have a very difficult time getting done what you want to do.
The reason for this is because aesthetically, there is nothing "wrong" with your profile. You have repeatedly stated that the problem is just very minor - there actually "is not" a problem from a clinical standpoint which is why your dr's won't do what you are requesting. Removing teeth is not a predictable cosmetic change, and you are pretty much flipping a coin as to whether or not your face changes to the way you want. I know in your eyes you think that your photoshopped version looks "better" - but it actually doesn't from an objective standpoint because the proportions are still the same. It just looks different. And you likely are not accounting for all of the other anatomical changes that come along with extractions that are also factors to consider. Not only do you lose facial support, you lose arch length, your teeth tip in, your cheeks can lose support, etc. In most cases extractions will cause changes in a person's face. However, in cases where extractions are needed, the changes are generally positive because the overcrowding that necessitates extractions causes a negative effect on facial aesthetics - extractions reverses this negative effect. But when you aren't in need of room, the effect is likely going to be negative.
Predictable outcomes is the gold standard for orthodontic and facial surgery. Now, I'm not an expert on either, but I've been on this board a long time and I've done a lot of my own reading on the subject. In my opinion, there is no predictable treatment that would give you the sort of change you desire. I'm sure you could find an orthodontist who will do what you ask him to, but you would be hard pressed to find an ortho that can promise with any reasonable certainty the changes that you are looking for. It's just not as simple as looking at one case in which the results were to your liking, and wanting to mimic that treatment.
