What to do after getting braces put on?

#1 Post by 28monthjourney »

I actually have to miss a class (I'm a sophomore in college) when I get my braces put on, but I still want to go to my next class. Would I be okay to do that with bite turbos and a palatal expander on, or should I just wait until the next day?
Also, does anyone have any vegetarian soft food ideas? A lot of soft foods I've been suggested are things like meatloaf and chicken. So far all I have is mashed potatoes, soup, noodles (which are kind of iffy, but if I cook them long enough should be fine), smoothies, protein shakes, ice cream, and milkshakes. While there are a lot of different ways I can have each of these, I feel like I would get sick of always having to have the same few things.
Sentence:
28 months in full upper and lower braces, open coil spring for additional alignment space for permanent teeth to erupt, elastics to align back bite, bite turbos, and palate expander.

You will have to get used to the pain eventually. Just take some advil.

Braces didn't really bug me the first few hours, the pain started to set in a little while later which is something that I still notice happens after checkups.

I think you'll be fine going to that 2nd class. I'd be more worried about the next day's classes....

As far as food, I survived on chili (not vegetarian), mashed potatoes, oatmeal, yogurt, applesauce. You'll find things that work for you. You may get sick of them, but it's only for a short time... You won't be stuck eating 4 things for the next 2 years
Had Damons (ceramic upper, metal lower) from June 27, 2013 - January 20, 2015
15-18 month sentence, official time in braces was 18 months, 3 weeks, 3 days

Oh yeah, I have an important meeting and I'm going to have to talk A LOT the day after. I'll be sure to take some painkillers beforehand!
Thanks for the tips :)

I'd highly recommend some vegetarian black or veg regular refried beans! They're nice and soft, and provide the good protein and fibre. I throw salsa at them too for extra flavour.

I was a recruiter last go with braces, (yep a lot of face-to-face and telephone talking) and had an expander... took some time to get accustomed to where to place your tongue to pronounce stuff correctly, but you'll get used to it pretty quick.

Best to ya, congrats on taking the plunge!

Don't forget to SMILE!

so far, i ate yogurt, apple sauce, congee, oatmeal, bean paste, smashed avocado, egg drop soup
i think we can drink milk, various type of fruit juice, smash potato, sweet potato, and any other grain or veg which can be smashed. i am going to make some chinese soups, hehe...
i think the thing you need to worry about is the excessive saliva. that is the most annoy thing to me, because i can not speak properly.

I'm vegetarian and I've been eating soups, mashed potatoes, cottage cheese, pasta, avocados, applesauce, yogurt, black beans, oatmeal, etc. It's been a week and I'm still only really eating soft foods, though I did brave cheese pizza last night :)

Thanks for the tips! I'm getting them put on tomorrow and then going straight to school, so I'm going to bring some soup to heat up and a protein shake in case I get hungry :)
