Braces and bite plate at 29yo
After years and years of wanting to get braces, I've finally been able to afford it and went ahead and scheduled some consultations (4 to be exact). I ended up going to the 2nd one I picked just because it "felt right." I got my spacers in today. Don't have much pain now. I did take some Ibuprofen earlier because of a headache but I think that was from driving behind a truck for a million miles in this NE snow storm and breathing in exhaust fumes... I get my braces on next week! I'm so excited because this is so long overdue. I was told that I need a bite plate as well because of my deep overbite. I heard about them but was somewhat surprised to learn I needed one. Not really sure why because I know my bite is pretty jacked up... For anyone who has had one, how did you deal with it? Is there anything special I need to know about it? I'm so anti-exercise and I know chewing will be pretty much impossible for a while so I'm not entirely upset about getting one because it could help me lose a few pounds :-) How long did it take you to be able to chew normally (I know everyone is different...)? Thanks in advance! :-)

Hi
I've had a bite plate for just 3 weeks. It took a week to get used to it and talk normally. I haven't been able to chew anything but that hasn't stopped me eating - the food processor has become my best friend - any meats I just blend - some stuff tastes better blended. I tend to eat things that don't require chewing, pasta, fish pie, mince beef pie\cottage pie. Hash browns are easy to mash.
You'll get used to it and adapt.
