Braces not that bad !

#1 Post by true_jaat »

First I must say that this is a great site both for information and encouragement. As almost all the people here - I wasnt happy with my teeth for a long time. So I arranged an ortho appointment last year but as soon as he said that I would need 4 extractions and it would take 20 months, I was out of there !
Then after almost a year of self-encouragement/motivation, I finally talked myself into it again and got my braces yesterday and to tell you the truth they are not as bad as I originally thought. I can easily see myself forgetting that I even have braces in about a month's time. I have ceramics at the top so most people didn't even notice them until they come close. The only problem I can see is that of eating because I can't really chew (hope this gets better over time). But the point I wanted to make was that anyone still undecided about braces well all I can say is there are a lot of misconceptions about braces and they are definitely not as bad as they look or seem to be.
And also after getting braces, I atleast know that every day my teeth are getting better and not worse - which is a great feeling.
The future depends on what we do in the present.

I didn't think they were bad at all either. Then came the second adjustment and that monster wire they put in. Can't wait for the next one when they put the biggest one in.
Full upper and lower metal braces put on May 12, 2005.

Braces free as of April 18, 2006!

Temporarily rebraced Nov. 21, 2006. ( I think I've moved past temporary. )

Brace free again - July 26, 2007.

Hi,

I just wanted to say I agree - they really aren't that bad!!...I was filled with dread at the prospect of needing braces.

For the first couple of weeks, I thought how am I ever going to forget they are there? Well, I'm 4 weeks in now, and I think I can say that I'm used to them now - no discomfort or irritation. (However, ask me that again after I've had my first adjustment!!!!) :?

I only wish I was able to have had ceramics, but as long as the braces "do what it says on the tin", then I'm not that bothered.

The chewing is a pain in the bum, but as with most things, I've found that is now getting a lot easier too.

Good luck to everyone & hang in there!

Take care
