Different shapes of archwire?

#1 Post by jamie vs »

Does anyone know why there are different shapes of archwires? I came across the images below.

Have you noticed what shape your tech is putting on you when you go in for an adjustment?

I definitely have different shapes with the Incognito braces. They're all pre-made for my mouth. I learned today that they're waiting for my bottom teeth to get in the mushroom shape of alignment (this means something to them, but nothing to me) before moving me into my next wire.

I wonder if these different shapes relate to different bone structure/mouth shapes. I am clueless about this stuff.

Norrie the shapes I posted are frontal arches for traditional type braces which is why I'm wondering why they are different. I would imagine that each one gives a different end result when treatment is completed. I really don't know but I would like to find out more about this. The wires I have look like the Accuform in the first image but I like the Standard better if I had a choice or even the third wire in the second pic rather than the Accuform that is just too round.

Archwires for lingual braces like yours are much different and look like a mushroom because they're placed behind your teeth. I saw a few videos on YouTube on how they shape them pre-adjustment. Here's a pic of what you wires are like.
