32 getting 4 extractions and braces!

Hello! I'm 32 and FINALLY getting braces. Well, I set a date anyway. March 20th! I'm pretty excited. I have to get 4 pre-molars extracted on March 7th. That is the thing that I'm not excited about. I've read horror stories but my ortho has reassured me that this is the only way to get my teeth straight and looking right. I've talked to two orthos that said the same thing so I trust that it is the right thing to do. I would love to hear from people that have had this done! Anyway, I will post after I get everything done.

I'm 39 and had 4 premolars extracted mid January, with braces put on 1 week ago.

My extractions went well. I did local only, no sedation. The oral surgeon was very good. I followed directions and avoided any complications. It felt like a big deal because of the permanence, but I didn't have any option. My mouth is just too small and teeth too over-crowded! Now that these massive braces are on, the empty spots are more camouflaged. My Ortho expects to see much of the space closing up even in a couple months.

I had top first bicuspids and bottom second bicuspids extracted.

Thank you! Metalat40, those are the same teeth I am getting extracted. I have a ton of crowding and a huge overjet. I was recommended for jaw advancement surgery too but would still have to have the extractions. So I decided against it. I hope everything turns out good still. I would love to hear about your progress! Please keep me posted!

I was supposed to get 1st bicuspids on top and bottom extracted. However, my ortho noticed the small fillings I had in the lower 2nd bicuspids and decided he'd rather take those out and leave the healthy 1st bicuspids. He's had 25 years experience, and it seemed just as easy for him to straighten the teeth out, regardless of which bicuspid pairs were removed. I was glad to keep the perfectly normal ones!

I have a small mouth, and small frame/petite in general. I too do not have the room for a full set of teeth. Some of us just don't!! My Ortho rarely takes out teeth. In fact, the oral surgeon joked he was going to frame his request for the extractions, as he just never sees him order it. I felt if he said I needed it, I needed it!

Despite everything I read about it, I was freaked out! My oral surgeon was great. All four teeth were out within 30 minutes. I used local only and did need palatal injections (novocaine into the hard palate). It was not that bad at all. I drove myself to my appointment and home again. I then had an emotional cry, followed the instructions, and did fine. Eleven days later, I can see the spaces getting a bit smaller.

Now I'm adjusting to the braces discomfort...!!!!

I had four upper and lower bicuspids removed on the 30th and the braces upper braces installed Feb. 6th. I was put under a local anesthetic also. I was going to just have 4 removed, but I changed my mind after the hygienist told me to just get it over with. I did and was glad I did. He said it will be a couple of months before I get my lowers installed. You will be fine.

I got four premolars extracted too....wasnt bad as I thought.....but I decided to hold off on my impacted lower wisdom teeth until braces are off....not looking forward to that one!

My extractions were horrible! He had to dig out the root on one of them so it took 2 hour to get all four done. I have awful anxiety too which didn't help. I kept feeling like I was on the verge of a panic attack. Anyway, got those done last Friday and my braces on Wednesday so in still pretty sore. If I were you I would have them knock you out for the impacted one. My wisdom teeth were impacted and they knocked me out for it.

Im finally going to try and upload some pics. The first one is about 4 weeks in and the second is about 10 weeks in. I am very pleased with the progress. The first month i was pretty discouraged because i had hardly any visable movement. Then all of a sudden at about week 6 they just started getting really sensitive and i really started noticing movement. I love my braces!
