Just got braced today!!

#1 Post by karri45 »

Hello, everyone,

Just got my top braces put on today! I am very excited!! I am 49 yrs old,and have 3 kids, who wore braces. Heck, even DH wore braces as a kid, so I decided that I wanted to join the club.

My co-worker can't believe, that at my age, I am doing this, but everyone else has been very supportive.

Also, want the thank everyone on the forum, because you really helped me with my decision, and prepared me for what was about to happen to me.

So far, I haven't felt much discomfort. Just find that I am not talking or smiling as much. BUt I am sure that won't last long.

I am looking forward to getting to know you all during our journey to a wonderful smile!!

That is for sure, one thing I quickly learned was that there is no smiling half way with braces when you first get them on, it is either all the way showing as much metal as possible or not at all. For the first month anytime I smiled it irritated my lips so I would have to smile even bigger to pull my lips off my brackets. The best compliment came from my wife when she told my in 20 years of marriage she has never seen me smile as much as I done now.

Welcome to the braced over 40 crowd.

Congratulations Kari45!!!

I am getting braces on 3 October and have put off doing so for years (I'm 34). I have worried about what people would think (I'm already on the shy side) and the pain involved - but this board has helped enormously and I too thank everyone on it!

Thanks for the warm welcome!!

Geri, I too, was worried about what everyone would think, but I definitely got over it today at work. I work at an all girls college, in one of the dorms, so I got plenty of attention today, plus we had a staff meeting!

You have made the right decision and I wished I had done it sooner too!

My front teeth are alittle sore, and I had to eat a little slower and ate a lot less too, which may be an added bonus in weight loss. LOL

I will be getting my bottoms on Sept 21, so I will see if I am still happy about getting braced.

I just keep thinking of them as a fashion accessory.

Congratulations Karri45!
I am 42 and my top braces go on on monday.
There seem to be lots of us beginning this process around the same time. I look forward to hearing how you are doing.

All the best..and smile and be proud! Easy for me to say cause I haven't started my journey yet!!

But I will be getting top braces on Sept. 28 - at age 29, and it can be a little intimidating when people say...how come at your age....but I just try to be very proud about it and know that it is something I have wanted to do for a very long time.

Best of Luck!

P.S. is my ticker working? I can never see it (only the words)
