Biting on front teeth

#1 Post by hellocanada »

Hi everyone,

I have had my braces in for almost two weeks now. The first week and a half was unbearable but now I am gradually getting used to them. However, the bands on my molars are still bothering me quite a bit and I find myself biting on my cheek when I sleep or when I eat. Does this eventually get better?? If not, is there a way to avoid this when I sleep?

Also, ever since I had my braces, I've been biting down on my front teeth vs my molars. I think it's because whenever I bite down on my molars, my cheeks get in the way. Does anyone else experience this?

Thanks!

Although it seems like you can hardly stand it...I promise it gets better. Then it will get bad again and better and bad and better...but yes I bit my cheeks more times than I can remember. I also was biting on only my front teeth for a while, and then it was only one tooth on bottom and one tooth on top that I was biting on. It changes and you adapt with it.
Keep your chin up, beautiful teeth and a great bite await you!!!

Not sure if it's this way for everyone but the part of my mouth I use to bite has changed 10 times over during this journey. When I started out, I could only bite on the left. A couple of months later, only the right. Sometimes only the front. Sometimes never the front. I think as your bite changes along with your treatment you just get used to using your teeth differently along the way. Right now, she is expanding my upper arch a little bit so I'm in a great phase where my top lip keeps getting stuck on the hook of the top canine and I keep biting on my cheek on the same side. It's getting better each day as I get used to it. I'm sure it will change again at the next visit.

Sometimes my bite is totally different when I wake up from how it was when I went to sleep. I can't believe how much movement there is.
