Bottom braces

#1 Post by bjohnson207 »

I have had top ceramic for over 6 months now with no lowers. Ortho said it will another few months till I get them. How long did you have to wait for lowers? Do lower teeth generally move faster? Mine are not bad at all just need straightened a bit but I don't want this to extend my sentence because they have not been put on yet.

Also how was the adjustment to bottoms? As bad as the initial top?

My lowers went on 2 months after the uppers did.

I don't find the adjustments, top or bottom, to be bad at all. I've been very lucky so far and have very little pain.

Mine went all on the same day, with molar buildups to keep me from biting down on my lower brackets.

I was supposed to get my lowers 6 months after my uppers. By month 3 the uppers had moved enough to have the lowers placed. The only time I've had "pain" during this entire journey were:
Spacers
First couple of power chains
Reverse curve wire on lowers

I've rarely used wax this entire time and only had one instance of being poked by my wire.

Lucky lucky :)

OH I get a reverse curve wire on my lowers tomorrow! Did it hurt a lot? I am worried that it will give me lots of pain right at first. How long did it take to see some change in the curve of spee? I can't wait for my bottoms to level out... right now the front is so high compared to everything else.. it looks terrible!

I got my lowers on 11 months after my uppers. I was working on correcting my bite and TMJD issues. I needed to expand my upper arch before I was ready for the lowers.

I really do think treatment plans are all about an individuals needs.

It hurt! Sorry! Lol

I'm a lazy ortho patient. I am not that into my treatment at all. I just show up every 4 weeks. I know I had to wear it for a few months. Two months back to back and then later it got placed a second time.

I just got braced yesterday, and I got the lowers first with a retainer on the top. I haven't found anyone yet who's treatment is similar to mine.

I don't mind you asking at all. It wasn't for a deep bite. I was in treatment for TMJD. I needed a lot of upper arch development and I needed to bring my lower jaw about 3 mm forward from my ear. (My discs had slipped resulting in my jaw position into my ears.)

I'm happy to say my treatments were very successful.

I waited about 5 months to get my lower brackets on and I had to request it. My lowers were severely crowded so they had to pull teeth back to make space for the frontal crowding. I highly doubt it will extend your treatment time. I posted pics if you want to check it out! Good luck to you!

Originally I was told that the lowers would go on about 3 months after the uppers. Ended up being about 8 months. I never really asked, but it didn't seem like it was due to any delay, just that my ortho thought there was less fixing needed on my lowers.

Have to say, I thought I was a braces pro by the time they put the lowers on. Turns out that they were harder to get used to than the uppers for me..

32 yr old guy from Boston

Upper Ceramics on 6/19/12
Lower Ceramics on 3/25/13
Braces off on 9/23/14

Original estimate of 16 months treatment time - ended up at 27 months.
