One thing I have been doing on and off since getting braces is biting into sandwiches, are we allowed to bite into sandwiches? i know people who have braces and do that comfortably in publlic and i'm wondering if it's fine to do that. i only bite into sandwiches when i am not out since food would just get stuck everywhere so my questions are:
- is it an orthodontic sin to bite into sandwiches?
2. has anyone learned how to bite into sandwiches in public without much hassle?
thanks everyone.
P.S Inspired by the topic on orthodontic sins
Of course you can bite into sandwiches, or hamburgers etc. If the bread is very hard or dense (for example, bagel or french bread) then it might be better to cut it up. Just swish some water around after ever few bites and you will be fine.
I only bite into sandwiches if I can get to a sink and clean it out fast because it's always a mess.
That being said.. I bite into things as much as possible because with my open bite this is the first time in 25 years I CAN bite into things with my front teeth!
Sandwiches (and things in a wrap like a burrito) are the only things I try not to eat in front of other people. Not because I can't but because I'm trying to spare them the grossness! I just never found a way to successfully navigate that one even after all this time. If I'm in a lunch meeting and I have no other choice but sandwich, I'll still open it up and eat the guts with a knife & fork. Occassionally I get a joke, but after more than a year all of my colleagues are pretty much used to it.
For the first 8-9 months I didn't bite into anything moreso because I was closing a space and my front teeth were ALWAYS so tender that I sometimes couldn't even bite into a banana! Now I bite into everything!
If I stay in for lunch I still opt to eat behind a closed door in my office because it's chew, do weird things with your tongue/mouth to remove food, chew some more, swish, next bite. LOL!! My family is grossed out but they have to deal...I figure my coworkers shouldn't have to
I bite into anything, as long as I have a bottle of water to swish.
