mouth open when sleeping

#1 Post by ceramic mouth »

Hi again everyone. I want to mention this to my ortho if it persists. Just want to be educated. So it's been about 10 days since i had an adjustment in which i got heavier wires top and bottom (16??) And 3 mlar tubes. a couple days ago i noticed that i wake up with my mouth open !! I never had that i even used to clench my teeth at night sometimes. I think i don't wake up breathing from my mouth i just wake up with it open.
Could that have anything to do with braces?
Thanks for reading.

My lips are so puffy because of my braces that my mouth always wants to separate. I don't know if your lips got pushed out a little more when you got your braces... I think that it is probably from the braces. At least having an open mouth is better than grinding teeth!

It's most likely the braces :)

Do you have sinus problems or hay fever? I used to sleep like that when I was little due to allergies and sinus troubles. I think it had something to do with my teeth being pushed out in front. :(

Every time my ortho puts a thicker wire on, it gets harder to keep my lips closed. I think the thickness pushes your lips out a bit. I never got a 16 wire, but I had an 18 last month. That's when I really started noticing that my mouth would do that. Now in a rectangle wire, I have to make a conscious effort to keep my lips from parting.

I don't like it at all!!

Thanks for replying guys. no, i don't have sinus issues.. i think if had i would have been breathing from my mouth?!
the problem has disappeared now .. maybe i got used to the thickness?!! or i had some positive movement since my last adjustment ? my next adjustment is in a week so will see what happens if the ortho (hopefully hopefully  ) changes the wires to thicker ones. Hanna, it is indeed annoying :-+
