Herbst appliance for adults?

#1 Post by shredie79 »

I am 53 and have been told it is likely I will need to wear a Herbst appliance eventually to move my jar into proper position. Any other older adults have experience with a Herbst appliance? I thought this device was only effective with youngsters with growing, devoting jaw bones.

Two weeks into my treatment so so far in all metal Damon braces. My ortho feels metal more durable and easier to move teeth. Also, I have small teeth and the metal brackets ate smaller in size. No bracket bands however.

Damons don't need bands to hold them in place, if you notice the bracket has a little gate to hold it. The Herbst is mostly used in children, but your ortho may be using it in conjunction with the Damon system to try and get maximum results without having to opt for jaw surgery.
