Just got braces on today

#1 Post by Josta »

So I'm 28, actually had braces for a couple years as a kid back in 5th and 6th grade. Man I definitely didn't miss this feeling haha! Nothing could have prepared me for how weird this feels today since it has been so long since I've had braces that Ive had 15 years to forget how they actually feel. I'm sure in the coming weeks I will adjust into them and I definitely know what I signed up for here so I don't have too much of a right to whine about it!

My case is kind of weird in that my braces were applied on top of veneers that I have. I have 8 veneers in a row on my top font teeth (beer keg fell on my face 5 years ago knocking most of my real ones out, that's why I got them). Is anyone else on this forum in a similar boat that has or has had braces put over any veneers? I think my ortho actually did a fantastic job with it, she wasn't 100% sure if the brackets would hold onto them, but they ended up sticking on just fine although the process took a lot longer since the "etching" time per veneer is 4-5 minutes as opposed to a minute per normal tooth.

Anyways just wanted to join the forums here as a fellow nerd in adult braces

I'm 48 and in braces for the first time. I desperately wanted them as a kid, but am glad I didn't. One, because I know I wouldn't have been good about wearing my retainer of the years and don't know if I would have done them a second time around and 2, being a teenager is hard enough without having a metal mouth trash my self-esteem even further.

Ouch on the beer keg!! Were you sober when it happened lol?

Good luck!!
