Kale Chips - So Good But What a Mess on the Braces

#1 Post by TheKT »

Anyone else feel like some of the foods we love and crave just don't go well with braces? Specifically, clean up! Kale chips, bread, chips, rice are a few that give me trouble. Yours????

Bread, tortillas, most carbs, potatoes, lettuce, chicken wings, crispy chicken tenders, raw carrots, raw broccoli, apples not cut up, pizza, calzones, anything with crust, spinach, did I mention chicken wings?, steak, rice, nuts, Snyder's pretzel bites, popcorn, chips; tortilla and potato, really crunchy things, anything with a bun including hot dogs, burgers, pulled pork, brisket, sandwiches, empanadas...

So, most food. Really not happy with my food choices lately. I feel like I've been hungry since I had my tonsils out May 5 that lead right into my uppers going on May 21.

Is it too early to start counting down?
Round 3 (lifetime) Damon stainless applied 3/16/20 (after 4 weeks attempting invisalign) On for about 18 months
Night time elastics with invisalign retainers; still...
Double jaw surgery was 6/18/15...
Orthodontics never really ends...
I'm emphatically against extraction orthodontics!

I would give anything just to simply bite into a sandwich or pizza or anything really never mind the clean up afterwards! Got braced a week ago and my front teeth are so sensitive to pressure I cant imagine eating properly ever again... when will this go away???
had a major issue with pesto sauce today took 15 minutes to pick out the 'green' in my lunch break!

I'm obsessed with Chinese food and sushi but I hate cleaning up after it!! I can't stand having rice stuck in my braces!! 5 more days and I won't have to deal with that problem ANYMORE!! :)

I love curry..... rice in my braces is irritating and not being able to load up my naan bread and bite down a mouthfull upsets me :( I find my shopping list now revolves around what I can eat with the least hassle and not what my family enjoy eating

Rice is the main thing that gets stuck in my braces. Slices of tomatoes when they're in pasta sauces will get stuck on my molar bands. Lettuce can be annoying as well.
For the most part though, the things I eat don't get too messy, I cut everything up and take smaller bites so there's less mess to deal with. There's no way I'm avoiding some messy foods (like bread) unless I know the food's not brace-friendly and it seems like it might break off a bracket. :)

I had a chicken bacon ranch pizza. Talk about disgusting!!! It took the electric toothbrush, the regular toothbrush and that goofy little round brush to get all the crud from over and under my wires. I have wire power chains upper and lower under my arch wires. There's plenty of room for junk to get IN but no room to get it out. its just gross!! HOWEVER...I may be debraced by September, that's EARLY considering my original sentence was 15-18 months! According to the ortho, all my teeth are in the correct positions but he's leaving the braces on to get the jaw bones to settle. I have an appointment on 7/17 and hopefully my debrace appointment will be made then.

Just in time to start my new life as a single woman...the STBX screwed up REAL good and there's no chance of reconciliation this time.
Braces off on 8/26/14 after a year!

Add me to the list of people who wish they could bite into things! My front 6 teeth have been very sensitive since I had SARPE. Sometimes I worry I'll never be able to bite into anything again.

Since I got braced, the worst foods for getting stuck in my braces have been banana, brie cheese, and oatmeal. The banana seems to evade all measures of dental hygiene. I don't know where it hides! The rind on brie gets stuck and you have to physically pull it off the braces. And oatmeal just hides everywhere it can.

WiredOldLady, what is STBX?
SARPE: December 19, 2013
Expander out/TPA in: May 13th, 2014
Upper and lower braces: May 21, 2014
Lefort I + BSSO + sliding genioplasty: June 11, 2015
Braces off: November 28th, 2016!!!
Braces on again, upper and lower: September 3, 2024

I made some melon and prosciutto for a picnic, thinking that the soft, ripe cantaloupe and thin ham would be easy to eat with braces. It was good, bit I ended up with strings of fat wrapped around my wires for the rest of the evening since the only facilities were porta-potties :-)

Hey Jill
I actually don't find the waterflosser that useful I sometimes feel like it makes food more stuck between the teeth! Maybe im doing it wrong though ?!
