How much time between when you get your braces off and when you get your retainer?

I think, like everything else (!) it depends...

Some orthos have the capabilities on site so you get them same/next day. Some they are sent out to be made off site.

I walked out the door with an upper Essix and came back a week later for my upper and lower Hawley.

My original plan was to be debanded and get permanent retainers on the same day and come back to get removable retainers on the following day. But I was going out of town the day after the deband day. The ortho office said that I shouldn't go without removable retainers more than a day. They told me that I should get debanded after my trip. So that's what I did. In the end I got debanding, permanent retainers and removable retainers all on the same day. Since my appointment was early in the morning, they could make Essix for me while I was waiting.

My ortho put my fixed retainers on, then removed my braces. A couple of hours later I picked up my Essix.
