What does it feel like on the first day with braces?

I'm getting braced 2 days later, so I am curious how much pain there would pain there would be on the first day.

Doesn't hurt when you get them on. If you have sensitive teeth there may be some discomfort because of the water used for cleaning the surface of the teeth. You will feel pressure after the wire is placed in and ligatures on. After a few hrs the pressure becomes pain and you will have difficulty eating solid food. Lasted about a week and a half for me then it's about adjusting to eating solid food with braces and learning to clean. I personally had no pain. It just felt like something was getting in the way of my mouth!

WAX IS YOUR BEST FRIEND, try and keep some with you so your mouth/lips don't get cut if their are any sharp areas.

Normally braces are only used in extreme cases.

Make sure you keep them clean, they can stay on as long as a year, and they can do some damage within that time.

Take lots of Advil about an hour before your appointment, and make sure you put on some chap stick right as you're sitting down in the chair. The thing they use to hold your mouth open kind of stretches out your mouth (or it did for me), and if your lips are dry, can be uncomfortable.

I was sore for a few days, but as long as you take some pain meds and don't eat anything too hard you should be fine. Use lots of wax until your mouth gets used to the braces!

I had braces when I was younger and don't recall any pain whatsoever.

I did not experience any pain the first day and I have only had mine for 3 days now. I am still not having any pain. I can feel the pressure but that's about it. I do have a hard time chewing food though because I can't bite all the way down because they installed bite bumpers. I do notice some teeth sensitivity now but it isn't what I call pain. I have not had to take tylenol or ibuprofen for pain etc. The chapstick is a good recommendation because you have your mouth open for so long. I am still using lots of chapstick. Good luck with your bracing and hopefully, no pain at all.

I'm currently on my first day of braces and it's pretty darn uncomfortabe. Even with my mouth at rest, I can feel the pressure the tracks are exerting on the teeth, especially where one of the incisors is overly protruded/rotated. Forgot chewing - it's smoothies and a little bread and cheese for me.

The discomfort is compounded by TMJ symptoms from the hour-long session of holding the mouth open, and also by the TADs I still have hooked up in my mouth shifting my molars up. Haven't had any need for wax yet though.

Taking some Tylenol now and hoping for the best.

Thanks for all the help!!! It's been 4 hours since I am fully braced and I have a bit of pain but so far it is completely bearable. Way to go for me!!!

Tomorrow will be a bit different. I found my teeth were more sensitive the next day but not painful. I am still eating soft foods due to my bite and bite bumpers. I can't chew my food properly so I tend to look for softer foods.
