Virginia, Maryland or DC referral for reversing extractions

#1 Post by Riley123 »

I am looking for an ortho in VA, MD or DC who uses functional lightwires on adults. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

I'm not exactly certain what you mean by functional orthodontics, but I would recommend my ortho, Dr. Andrew Schwartz of Capitol Orthodontics. He has offices in DC and Rockville (Shady Grove area).

Thanks. Maybe Lightwire Orthopedics is a better term: things such as crozat, Farrell Bent Wire System, and ALF.

I'm not sure getting hung up on a particular treatment, or appliance, is necessarily the best approach.

Go to one or more orthodontists, explain what you want fixed, and see what they say. Maybe reversing the extractions makes sense, maybe there are other approaches that would work while being easier and cheaper. (The cost of the implants alone easily will double the cost of treatment.)

As a side-note, I don't know about the Crozat or Hazell, but I know that the ALF is one of those "miracle" orthodontic treatments that few actual orthodontists sell. It's virtually always (in the US, anyway) sold by dentists who have decided to add orthodontics "on the side", even though they usually will not have undergone much additional training on orthodontics. (They often claim to practice "functional orthodontics" which is a sneaky way around the legal prohibitions on calling themselves an orthodontist without the proper certification.)

Thanks. I actually think I found a good ortho in Alexandria, and I'll be using the Crozat, which uses a thicker wire than the ALF. I am anxious to start treatment as I have terrible sleep apnea.

Riley123, may I ask who is treating you in Alexandria, VA? I also was curious to know how your treatment is progressing with the Crozat? Thank you very much for any info that you have!
