Weird Problems

#1 Post by Chocoholic »

Hey All,

Now this is going to sound a bit odd, but I was wondering whether anyone else had the same problems.

I seem to subconsciously really force the inside of my bottom lip onto my braces, sometimes so hard they end up sticking and really cutting into the inside flesh.

Plus every now and again I get this odd spasm of of my lower jaw which kinda tries to pull my lip away from the braces.

Told it was weird :yikes:

Anyone else got any strange things going on?

I really push my lower lip into my lower braces when I'm sleeping. I often wake up in the morning with big sores/dents in the tissue right in front of my lowers! I've noticed that putting wax over my lower front two brackets before I go to bed helps with this.

no lowers

I don't have lowers but I do mash on my uppers with both of my lips. My lips get pretty irritated. (I just found out heavy makeout sessions are dangerous!)

I read on another posting about a guy using silocone earplugs instead of wax and decided to try it. IT'S WONDERFUL! Wax tends to mush out when I use it, and I end up wasting a lot b/c I push it out with my tounge or lips. You use them just like little balls of wax but they don't push off like the wax does and they are just as safe as regular wax (read the label inside). When I used regular wax I'd wake up and it would have mysteriously disappeared. I wore some yesterday for the first time - I put it on at about 5:30 am and had to peel it off around 8:30 that night. I even ate chicken strips with it on and they didn't get all stuck up in it.

Hint - stays better if your teeth/braces are dry. Takes a little more work to get it on too.

They seem kind of expensive $5 for six "sets" (12 globs) but there is a LOT of stuff in there, and it's probably a lot cheaper than buying the same amount of wax.

I found them at Walmart near the contacts stuff and they are called Mack's. (They have childrens version available if you fancy neon orange globs in your mouth!)

Ok I have a weird problem..... before braces, I used to sleep with my mouth a little bit open because I have always had problems breathing when I am lying down. Now with braces, my mouth is massively open when I sleep, and whenever I wake up to roll over, my head hits a massive drool spot. Now I'm never awake long enough to really care, but everytime I hit a droll spot it runs through my mind that it's a good thing I sleep alone or someone else would probably drown.

Has anyone else had this problem or know how to fix it?

I'm glad I could be of help KK! I've been having to use this 'wax trick' every night lately, I don't know what the heck I'm doing while I'm sleeping, but it sure takes a toll on my lower lip!

As for the drooling, I have always slept with my mouth closed, but in the past few months that I've had braces I've definitely noticed a drooling issue! It is really is gross to roll over into it....but I haven't found a solution yet (other than warning my boyfriend so that he doesn't get completely grossed out!)
