sentencing question

#1 Post by Juicy2003 »

So yesterday at my Orthodontics consultation the Ortho sentenced me to 12 - 18 months. I just wanted to know if anyone has any one ever been told that you would be braced for so long and the you ended up with braces longer than the time the Ortho initially stated? If so how long after that were you actually done with brases?
1st consultation 9/26/14
Appointment to get braced set for November 6th, 2014 at 4 pm
Sentenced to approximately 12-18 months

Well, I was estimated (emphasis on ESTIMATE, lol) at 18-24 months...I'm at 38 months and counting...I was hoping to be done by November, for a family get-together, but it's not looking good for me. I finished paying after 24 months, so I've got that going for me, but I was hoping to have quick-moving teeth; Not! There're three teeth that are looking weird to my orthos, and they keep trying to adjust them, and my extraction gaps just recently closed, so it's been quite a process. I think I admire the integrity of the orthos for not rushing me through, even though I've been paid up for a while, but I have to admit, I'm about ready to be done!

I was told two years, It will be a couple weeks short of 3 years when I get debraced. my debrace date is the same as your brace date October 9 at 8:30 am.

My debrace date was the beginning of last month. My diastema started to reopen and my bite was still off. I go back on Thursday. I am really upset that they are still on and still uncomfortable.

I replied in your other thread and then just noticed you'd also created this one.

It seems to be fairly common that treatment time estimates are exceeded. I was told 18-24 months and I'm now at month number 42 :(

I think I'm a fairly straightforward case too: moderate overcrowding of the lower incisors, 5mm overbite, mild overjet but otherwise a pretty well aligned upper arch. Upper premolars extracted. I'm in Damon brackets and I've been through many different elastic configurations, both class II and class III.

I would recommend that you ask your orthodontist how he/she arrived at the estimate. Does he/she have a set of comparable patient histories where treatment was considered successful? These are some of the things I wish I'd asked.
