Hi nattttt,

I went to see two dentists both of whom were pushing the six month train tracks instead as my case was quite crowded. When we decided on the inman she said it would take 4-5 months and need invisalign style trays at the end. I got my inman on August 7th, 9 weeks ago today, and its already nearly done! So I think often it can actually be a lot faster. I would say go for it - best thing I've ever done!
The speech depends a lot on whether you have an expander built in - I have one and it covers the roof of my mouth so my speech has never gone back to normal, its easier, and I care less, but its still a very obvious lisp. I think those without an expander can end up with their speech 100% back to normal, but not sure! Anyone?

Nat,
I agree with Rosie sue, speech is worse If you have an expander and a key which is for people whose problem is an overcrowded mouth.
I'm on week 12 and I'm in my second last week with the Inman, then I'll get my impressions for the next stage which involves clear trays. Not everyone needs those and I was made aware of this at the start. Although my speech never went back to normal with the expander, it's still the best thing I've ever done. My teeth are almost straight and they look great in photos now. They are a few shades whiter even though I haven't started the teeth whitening stage yet! Think this is due to the fortnightly polish. Go for it!!!!!

Cjfarmgate,
When the text box appears to type a reply to the left of the preview button, underneath, it says choose file,I then chose the photos I wanted to upload!

tcmn I have noticed my teeth are whiter too and friends have even asked if I've gotten them whitened!! I think it might be due to brushing and flossing them 5 times a day every day! (my dentist never polishes mine, you lucky thing!) x

Finished at last!!! Porcelain veneers fitted yesterday, I am delighted with the end result and can't stop smiling with my beautifully aligned teeth. From start to finish this took 5 months but I only had the Inman Aligner in for 11 weeks, the rest was easy, just the Essix retainer to wear in exactly the same way but with no lisp and no speech problems whatsoever. I am so pleased that my dentist has now told me I only need to wear my newly fitted Essix retainer at night and for just a couple of hours in the morning. This new one is double skinned and very soft on the inside to protect my new veneers. Job done! Good luck to everyone else - money well spent definitely. cjfarmgate :D

That is so great!! We will definitely miss you on this! Well done for staying so positive throughout :D

Are many people getting veneers? My dentist never mentioned it,what are peoples reasons?

Re retainers, what are most people getting? I'm inbetween fixed and removable,my dentist is for the removable one because it's easier to clean but I like the idea of not wearing a retainer at night. Any thoughts?

Rosiesue - thanks so much, I will try to put some photos on here so you can see my beautiful teeth, I'll pop on to the forum from time to time to see how you're all getting on and give advice if I can.

tmcn - thanks again to you. My veneers were because I needed my old ones replacing so definitely not necessary if you have normal coloured teeth, mine were discoloured due to the accident I had as a child, I'm 53 now! With regard to retainers, I would go for the removable one, you wear it in exactly the same way as the inman but no-one will notice it as it is perfectly clear, also your speech is 100% normal. Can't really comment on the fixed one, but having see it I would be put off by the fact it looks a bit like the inman and may affect your speech like the inman does. Wearing the clear one at night is no big deal and actually not uncomfortable at all - hope this helps with your decision.

To anyone thinking of having aligners this forum is the best to keep you motivated as I have found.

Hi all,

Thank you all so much for your replies!!
I've had a think about it, and I've decided I'm going to go for it! After reading all of your success stories, I think I would definitely regret it in the future if I don't do it now.

I'll ring my dentist on Monday for an appointment and keep you guys updated. :)

Thanks again!

Hi all,

I'm a newbie here but I have being reading the forum the last few days.

Basically I had braces in school, 4 teeth out and didn't wear retainer so I'm now back to square one. I have a 10mm overjet, front teeth angled out - used to be thumb sucker, which doesn't bother me as its only like that when I bite back teeth together. I do have a lateral incisor, left side which is behind and slightly covered by both teeth either side not enough room for it between the teeth which bugs me. Very conscious of it in photos usually close mouth or at least try to stand with right side facing camera to hide it. Last year I went to an orthodontist but he wanted to do surgery, break jaws put in plates, definitely not for me. Last week met a dentist who recommended the inman aligners to me, said he could push out lateral incissor and pull back tip of front teeth 2 or 3mm which is what i would really like.

Anyone out there have a similar problem and did the inman aligners perform?

Also, thinking of having by bottom teeth done too. Don't see them in photos but would like to get them done because they are crowded and would be easier to clean. Would you recommend doing one arch at a time or just going for it and getting complete job done in 6/7 months as dentist said it would take that long.

Thanks guys for your help in advance.

Well done cjfarmgate!!

I noticed a bit missing on my aligner! Right at the back, a small triangle of plastic - gone, now I'm worried more will break. I do clench my teeth at night, but I'm just panicking about my aligner breaking before the treatment's finished. I still have weeks to go.

Luckily due for review on Wednesday, but concerned as to what they will do. :?:

Dave,
That sounds like my problem. Incisor was right behind front tooth. Overcrowded mouth. I also would have needed jaw surgery and 4 extractions. I got Inman on top teeth. As your mouth is overcrowded you will probably have an inbuilt expander. Id say it would be very difficult to wear two at a time. Speech with the expander is difficult enough, I'd say with two it'd be too difficult. My bottom teeth are a tiny bit off but nothing major so I didn't take the plunge. However, my dentist has recommended that I get a retainer for them anyway incase they move as my front ones did. Not sure if this will straighten them as I have to wear them for four weeks 18 hours a day after my Inman. I'll let you know next Monday.

I would definitely recommend the Inman. They move so fast, not too much pain, removable, shorter time, no surgery and cheaper. My dentist said also thatif I forget to wear the retainer and they move back slightly just start wearing the Inman again. I'm planning on wearing retainers but it's a nice backup plan!!

Cjfarmgate, well done I am so pleased for you. It's great news to hear you are finished and totally happy with the end result.

Dave, I am wearing an expander first, had it for about 8 weeks, and I will need it for at least another 10 weeks, this is to get things moving, prior to me having my inman aligner. Bit of a longer process, but I am staying positive that it is doing all the ground work.

xx

Oharecr,
I'd love to see or hear what the expander looks like on its own, I didn't know about that. Well done for staying positive, it is a longer road but it's obviously what your teeth need and will be worth it. Is your speech normal with it?

I'm ready for my Essex retainers so I'm hopefully getting impressions next week. I didn't realise however that they take three weeks to order and make them so it'll be 8 weeks in total that I have left. From start to finish that's about 21 weeks so a few weeks more than I thought.do you also have to get Essex moulds made? Once you get Inman they will move so quickly because you have the space which I didn't

Thanks for the replies guys just a few more quick questions.

tcmn, definitely sounds like we had/have same problems. How long did u have to wear you top aligner with expander for? Would be great if you could let us know what retainer will do for bottom teeth.
Oharecr, whats the difference between the expander and having an in built one, I haven't heard of that before. Best of luck with it will be worth it in the end.

Also do you know if you have to have your wisdom teeth out for the treatment?
I've being quoted £2200 for both arches anybody get a similar price?

Thanks folks.
