Ceramic brackets with metal ligatures

#1 Post by JMKeith »

Hi,
I have had my braces for 8 weeks. Today was my first adjustment. I have ceramic brackets on my top front 6 teeth, metal on in the back top teeth and metal on all the bottom teeth.

My question is, when does the orthodontist start using rubber ligatures instead of metal? Right now i have metal ligatures on my top teeth which kind of defeats the purpose of the ceramic brackets.

Thoughts?

JK

I'm at adjustment 2, month 4, and still all metal ligs on ceramic brackets. I was told is that metal is more secure, not losing it's grip over time like elastic.

It's totally up to your case... I was on a mix of elastic and metal from day 1 through the end of treatment.

I've had metal ligatures with ceramic brackets from day one. I find the metal ties not very noticeable....some people didn't notice I had braces for a few months. The great thing about metal ties is they don't stain (the brackets don't stain either) so you can eat all the curry, tomatoes, wine, coffee you like.
