Had an adjustment yesterday. Ortho says he studied my xrays and says that the canine is moving, just very slowly. He mentioned that this might extend my treatment time...original estimate was 30 months. So that's a bummer but whatever at least it's moving. He changed the direction that he's pulling the chain. I'm hoping this helps. Another adjustment in four weeks.

Tell your Ortho you want to get adjusted every three weeks. Speed up the process. My adjustments are every three weeks.

Since changing the direction of the pressure on the chain I feel like there has been some movement this month. I have an adjustment next week...I will bring up every 3 weeks! How far does your tooth have to go?

It still has a ways to go though I think it's close to getting a bracket put on. Might happen this Wednesday, but we'll see. I'm getting my bottom teeth shaved then. Not looking forward to that. I'm not a fan of the smell :)

I got a regular ol' bracket placed on my impacted canine today. It's moving nicely :)

I also had a regular bracket put on my tooth about 2 months ago. It definitely moves quickly. The canine is down to level of the old baby tooth. It's slightly rotated (I can't tell how) and there's a lot of space on either side of the tooth. I won't be done within my 18 month sentence but it's all worth it.

Good luck all!

Another bummer adjustment.
Ortho said he's not sure if my canine is moving...or if everything else is moving? Sigh. Possible next xray in Feb. Next adjustment in 4 weeks.

I laughed about the word "sentence." I'm a deputy in a jail and that's right up my alley.

Stay positive. Orthos have all kinds of tricks up their sleeves.

Hi all! I'm new to the message boards! I too have an impacted canine and I just started my braces journey! I had a consultation with my ortho last week and we briefly discussed what an impacted canine means for my treatment but he couldn't go into depth because he didn't have a panoramic xray on me.... So I had my dentist send it over and I'm meeting with him again soon to go over the treatment plan in full. I hope he thinks we can pull my tooth down successfully! He sounded discouraged when I told him I'm 25; he says it's more difficult the older you are and apparently 25 is "older"?? But then again he hasn't seen the xray yet so I hope everything works out! Then I'll get braced up shortly after our next appointment! I'm so excited, I've wanted braces my whole life! I have 2 baby teeth on the right side (one on top, one on bottom) that I never pulled and the adult teeth are just chillin' there behind them lol... And I never pulled a baby tooth on the top left side, and that's where the impacted tooth is (somewhere in the roof of my mouth). And I still have 2 of my 4 wisdom teeth, so I'm sure those will be extracted as well..... But I don't even care, I'm too freakin excited! haha

:-1 Welcome to the club!

Did you go over your pano? What'd your ortho say? How does your tooth look? Mine has been rough...it was completely horizontal and pretty far back. It's been activated for nearly ten months and it's still no where in sight.

Just saw my Ortho - my formerly impacted tooth is still moving but not fast enough and is putting pressure on the surrounding teeth. The teeth on that side of my mouth have moved up and made my smile look about as wonky as when the baby tooth was in place.

So, now I have a lovely elastic on that tooth. She acknowledged it was going to be a pain to wear and visible but said to wear it as much as possible and I'll be surprised at how fast the tooth will move.

The good news is this was my last payment on my braces.

I'm 43 and got the same speech. My tooth is almost all of the way down. It's turned a little, so in a few weeks we're going to replace the bracket and begin turning the tooth into its correct position. So far, so good. This process has taken just over a year and it's well worth it. A big pain, but it'll be nice to have the adult tooth where it belongs.
