Hope your fitting goes well today Helenv! And enjoy your holiday too! I'm just back from a 3 week holiday in south east asia and it was no hassle.
I am going back to the dentist on Monday to get impressions for my retainer! Can't believe I'm finished, it really flew by! There is one incisor to the side which isn't quite straight but I think its as good as it'll get, and she doesn't think clear trays will do anything to finish it off. My front teeth are perfect though, I'm very happy! I'll post photos soon, I've been told a few times now that I'm nearly done so I'll believe it when I see it!
Best thing I've ever done. So nice looking back at holiday pics to perfect straight teeth rather than deleting all the ones taken from an angle I don't like! :D

Good luck to all the new people on here, its a great help to chat to people!

Well 1st 24hrs in and doing ok really. Teeth already a bit tender when not wearing the brace but feel fine when its in place. Thinking I might lose some weight during this holiday as I can't be bothered taking out so much to snack etc! Off to the airport in a couple of hours - and actually looking forward to Thailand now! Will update on my return.

How is it going Helenv and David84?

I get mine fitted on Monday and I am really getting nervous, after having the expander for about 4 months, I have started to panic about getting the actual inman!

I am wondering if I might need the say off work to get used to it? Any views?

Xx

Hi Oharecr,

I wouldn't think you need to take time off work, apart from extra saliva and getting used to it while speaking there should be no issues. I've had mine two weeks now and two rounds of IPR and at this stage I almost forget its in my mouth. I can already see some movement. You will be fine especially after having worn the expander. Hope all goes well for you later today.

Thanks dave84. You are right it wasn't as bad as I was expecting.

it was fitted yesterday. I had to have lots of filing first, that didn't hurt but was a strange process.
Apparently I will need that every two weeks!

It's a struggle getting it in and out, but hopefully that will get easier in time x

My main issue is that it is rubbing against my inside cheek, and it's quite painful.

I have seen comments about this on this page, but of course I can't find them now, has anyone else?

Thanks

I've just finished with my aligner. In fact, I was dreading it and felt a bit lost without it! I'm still having to wear it at night as have to wait for my retainer - going back in January to get that fitted and a bit of filing of the bottom teeth. Top teeth now look lush :-)

Will look for before and after pics to post. Anyone just starting, stick with it, wear it as much as possible and in a short amount of time it actually starts to feel like part of you! Mine has been worth every penny and every pain!

Starnepus, WOW they look fab, you must be so pleased with the results.

Many thanks for posting pictures, I for one definitely need to know that all this discomfort is going to be worthwhile, so seeing your pics, will keep me motivated.

Smile with pride xx

I had a problem at the beginning where it rubbed the inside of my cheek one side. I had a close look and on the spring there was a tiny sharp bit which I was able to just turn around a bit to make it face my teeth - does that make sense? I also really struggled putting it in and out initially but now of course can do it within a second and without looking :D

When I have my final appointment my dentist (who is then leaving eek!) is going to do a bit more perfecting and then I'll post you another pic. I love my new top set and you'll love your new teeth when they're done. Mine took longer than estimated but still only took 6 months and they moved quite a way eh?

Good luck with yours x

back from holiday and can say it wasn't as bad as i thought it would be while away. been to work for the 1st time today and must admit i removed my aligner during 2 x meetings i had to attend - just cant speak easily enough in that situation! anyway, 1st check up went well - 2 1/2 weeks in and i can already see improvements! hopefully the next few weeks will go quickly and i'll be at the end as fast as possible.

That's good news Helenv x I have had my 2 week check up now too. My dentist seemed pleased, although I haven't noticed any change x I don't really like the filing that has to happen every 2 weeks. It doesn't hurt, but I don't enjoy it x just keep focussing on the end result x

hello all - sorry haven't been on this in ages! I was delighted to be finished up with my inman aligner just before christmas and got a fixed retainer behind my top set. I was going to wait til I'd finished whitening to post pictures but within a week of having the bonded retainer my teeth started to move. I phoned the dentist and they were closed over the whole of christmas - just reopened yesterday. My dentist is now only working part time so can't see my til next monday. Basically a very large gap has opened up on one side - so wide that you can see the wire of the retainer behind my teeth!! I am trying not to panic. I think I will probably end up back to the inman and it'll fix within a week, which I don't actually mind at all - but I don't understand how it moved, and I really don't think the retainer has broken. I'm still so happy with my progress with the inman, but the way they are now is completely unfinished looking, and unacceptable too! :'( Will update next Monday!
ps - Starnepus your teeth look fab!!

Poor you Rosiesue, that's awful but I'm sure your dentist will rectify it for you and all will be fine - annoying though! I'm surprised you didn't have to wear a plastic retainer for a while before your permanent retainer was fitted, I had one for a while and my dentist told me that this was while we waited for my teeth to settle down and the fibres to regrow/firm up back in to the gum properly. I had my permanent bonded retainer fitted on 23rd Nov and haven't had any problems. All dentist have different views though and your treatment would have been different to mine, I'm also probably quite a bit older than you. Good luck anyway, you know it will be worth it.
