Will I ever get used to this?

#1 Post by BraceFace2115 »

It's Day 2 and what a miserable day it has been. I am still eating soft foods and I'm starving, my inside mouth is starting to cut and get sore and my mouth feels like it's burning and itching!
This brace feels MASSIVE rubbing on both top and bottom lips! One minute my mouth is dry the next it's full of saliva!!

There is only pain pain what a clatter my teeth together or bite into something! It just feels really tight and I'm regretting doing this to myself!! I'm taking pain relief constantly hence the reason why I've probably not experience any real real real pain!

Is all of this normal? Does it get any better? Does the day when I forget it's even in my mouth exist?

It gets better, I promise. That's exactly how I felt during my first few days. I actually thought my teeth might break off. Give it a week and you'll get there. Best of luck and congrats on taking the plunge.

Remember to wax the heck out of those braces. It does get better. I've had them for 2 years 4 months and there is not a day that I have forgotten about them being there. To me, though, the first couple of weeks were by far the worst in terms of discomfort -- both physically and psychologically. You'll get through it. Best of luck to you.

Give it a couple of weeks and you will get used to them. Trying to eat anything other than soup was impossible for me until after the first week. Also, my mouth was very dry at night and my lips were constantly chapped. Now things have settled down and I'm more comfortable with the braces, even had pizza last night; although, I had to eat it in small pieces with a fork and knife!

You get used to it. First few days are the "getting used to it all" stage. It takes some people longer than others. The end result is worth everything, so don't give up on it or regret it when you've only just started.

I had a glass of Wine, only white thou! Would love a glass of red but I'm worried it may stain my ceramic brackets... Maybe through a straw?!?!?

Tomorrow is day 4! I think I'm coping well and have already seen movement which is postive.
My mouth feels uncomfortable and I still can't bite or chew because my teeth feel sore and brused! I'm using wax because My inside gum is cut up and sore! I'm in a public facing job and that's tough!!
Hoping this feeling fades rapidly ;-) or the wine numbs it all!!

I was REALLY sore after getting my braces. For about a week, my diet was whey protein shakes, soup, and yogurt. I went back on the Braces Diet after pretty much every adjustment. Whey protein is great because 2 scoops gives you get LOTS of protein and minimal fat. You could always add some peanut butter to add more calories.

Oh! And red wine definitely helps. With a straw, of course.

I hope you are starting to feel better, after an adjustment id carry on chewing because even though it hurt, the pain went away quicker.
I have been on liquids for 10 days so i can relate to the starving bit!

It does get better! I've had mine since june and for the last few months i forget I'm wearing them except for when I'm brushing or eating bread because it gets stuck everywhere!

FYI!!! Ceramic braces DO NOT stain! However the ligatures that hold the wire on do so I normally eat stainy food and drink just before i have an appt so the ligs get changed anyway

Gosh I needed to read this post today. I'm on day 2 and I'm miserable. The inside of my mouth is all cut up and sore. I just brushed my teeth and sat down with a mirror and wax. I'm putting wax everywhere…is that ok? Will I need wax forever like this? If so, i need to buy stock in the company! I am getting sores in weird places and then having to figure out which bracket is the culprit is a challenge.

For the second day my menu has been: Oatmeal (watered down so I drank it) for breakfast, chicken soup with mostly broth for lunch and ice cream for dinner. I also drank a cup of hot peppermint tea today and decided it tasted so good I'm going to treat myself everyday.

What day are you on now? Are you feeling any better?
Looking forward to the new smile,
KayKay

Hello!!!

I'm on day 5 and it's getting better!!! I've not developed anymore cuts in my mouth and the one nasty cut I have is healing!!! Yes wax away but I promise it will get better. I only put wax the back brackets, they really hurt my gums but it is getting better, today I won't need wax!
I'm still unable to bite or chew because my teeth feel sore and brused but I've noticed thats getting better too ;-)
I was so miserable on day 2! But keep going and keep waxing!!
