Average time a tongue guard needs to be worn

#1 Post by sara2280 »

Hi! This is probably a long shot as my other posts regarding a tongue guard have gone unanswered, but what is the average time a tongue guard needs to be worn to be effective? Just want to mke sure I wear it long enough that it works and the tongue position will be maintained. My ortho said it was up to me as I would know when my tongue thrust symptoms have gone away.

I had a tongue guard installed yesterday on my lower arch. Haven't had any problems so far.

Thank you for any info!!!

I had tongue spurs on my upper teeth for 6 months. Not sure that it really worked. What kind of lower tongue guard do you have?

I know this was posted a while back.
How long did you have it on?
How was it?

I don't have it yet but I will very soon.
I have a choice of tongue spurs or a tongue crib, my orthos choice is the crib she said she was willing to try the spurs if I wanted to. She even mentioned her fallback which would be a tongue crib with spurs as a worst case scenario choice.

The time frame I got is at the very least one year, she would rather have me keep it until the remove brackets.

She told me as well that I would get to top retainers one with the crib for nights and one without for the day.
