Cheaper alternatives to a waterpic?
Getting braces is really stretching the money so getting a name brand water pic isnt an option. Any one know any cheap alternatives? ![Very Happy :D](./images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif)

You might see if your ortho, dentist, or hygienist has any irrigating syringes. They come in a variety of sizes (and the bigger the better, say 100cc) and are fitted with a plastic tapered tip, sometimes they are curved. It would help blast out debris, but probably not as effectively as a waterpik. Perhaps you can find a used waterpik and just purchase some new tips.

The syringes are a great idea. Also, just swishing vigorously with water while you're eating makes a tremendous difference. I hardly ever used my waterpik early on and only use it a bit more recently since I have gotten bad about swishing while eating and also now eat things I wouldn't earlier on (popcorn...). I don't think a waterpik is necessary at all. Proxy brushes and floss, on the other hand, are. They're also much cheaper ![Smile :)](./images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)

These are less expensive. However, make sure that your faucet's aerator can be removed; otherwise you won't be able to hook it up.

I'm the owner/admin of this site. Had ceramic uppers, metal lowers ~3 years in my early 40's. Now in Hawley retainers at night!

We've heard of patients using the handheld shower in different modes. Something anecdotal and to be clear, not recommending it or dissuading it either way

@ugh, I don't have a waterpik either. Although it is recommended, I feel it is not a necessity. As long as you thoroughly floss and brush, I think that should suffice.

Re: Cheaper alternatives to a waterpic?
Thanks everyone! I guess im just really paranoid about the possibility of decalcification around the brackets. ![Shocked ](./images/smilies/icon_eek.gif)

That's a healthy concern. Fortunately, really good brushing should keep you clear of that!ugh wrote:Thanks everyone! I guess im just really paranoid about the possibility of decalcification around the brackets.

I bougth, on the advise of my dental assistant SHOWER FLOSS. Look it up, hooks up in your shower. Big bonus for me since I wouldn't like the water splashing all over my mirror
