So I'm almost 2 weeks in and I can't stop thinking how nice it would be to bite into a big juicy apple. I can't bring myself to even eat one cut up into small pieces... maybe one day. Also nuts :( I love almonds and I really didn't make the most of them before my braces sentence!
If I weren't wearing braces now, I would say too many to list. But the weird thing is I soon stopped craving them after the braces went on.
Mac and cheese (with more cheese than mac) and baby food have been surprising saviours - as I never really ate much of these before (especially the latter...). I can't really chew so I have to slide the noodles down my mouth like a snake.
I really get a kick out of how dramatic people are about the no-no list. People seem to think if a popcorn kernel or a nut touches your tooth, the brackets will spontaneously explode, causing an unstoppable chain reaction tearing a rift in the time-space continuum, extinguishing mankind forever... Have you even tried the forbidden items?
Here's my take:
Ribs? Just ensure no brackets contact the bone. Take tiny, cautious bites.
Popcorn? Keep an eye out for rogue kernels and CHEW GENTLY. I just crushed a massive Ikea sized bowl of it with a ton of butter and salt and let me tell you, it was delicious. Waterpik is your friend with this one.
Nuts? One at a time, in the middle of your rear molars and do not try to fully crush it in one bite. Instead use only a third of your full bite or so to break it up.
Corn on the cob? Same as the ribs.
Etc, etc.
My point is YOU CAN EAT ALL THESE THINGS AS LONG AS YOU'RE CAREFUL. Just don't let your instincts kick in and start ravaging that food like you did pre-braces. I will agree with the thick toffee though. It can be done by employing similar technique, however it just isn't worth the mess in there. Haha.
I am way too adventurous (and unhealthy!) with what I eat. Popcorn, chips, gummy bears, Rice Krispie treats... I'm careful, though, but it might backfire one of these days! Then I'll be sorry. The only things I never eat but want to are certain candy bars (fifth avenue was my favorite!) and corn on the cob. I also never eat pretzels or nuts but I don't like them much anyway so it's no hardship.
