Guys, I don't know what to do. Months of trying to close this gap and it's just not happening. At least not the way we're doing it. Because of that, the left side of my mouth is still a mess.

Yet today at my appointment my ortho actually wanted to take off my braces! He said he doesn't think the gap is going to close any further. I'm completely shocked. My smile is nowhere near acceptable and that he thinks it's okay for me to leave it like this makes me believe I need to go see another orthodontist. Which I really don't want to do for obvious reasons but it seems i'm not going to get anywhere with this doctor.

I'm so stressed by all of this

guys, after talking with my orthodontist yesterday i feel a little bit frustrated
he said i could just leave the impacted canine inside my gum as it was because i already 26 and people who pull the canine down are usually teenagers
at first i was confident i could get treatment but now i doubt whether i should just leave the canine there in my gum for the rest of my life
anyone here has the similar experience?

Hi everyone. I've got a canine that needs to come down (at 28, yikes) and I'm terrified. I have an ortho consult on Monday to see what can be done. My baby tooth is not long for this world. Had anyone had experience with a flipper or amy kind of fake tooth to get them through gap-having times? I'm very anxious about the whole process bUT most of my worries are about aesthetics and time...I'm in sales, talk all day, and am people-facing. I'm nervous about my looks and personal relationships enough as it is the way I am. If anyone has any insight I'd love to hear it!

Hello. I'm 26, soon to be 27. I had braces put on in April of 2015. I had exposure surgery for my two palatally impacted canines on Dec 10th. Also, had both baby canines pulled. Both impacted canines are horizontal and one is pretty far back. Heard the nurse commenting about it during my surgery (she thought I was knocked out, but I was in and out of awareness) and she was dubious that that canine would ever be pulled into place. I lost consciousness as my oral surgeon was replying to her. I had both chains activated about 48 hours ago. Still in a good deal of pain and can't stand to bite down on anything that puts pressure on the roof of my mouth.

I'm a bit worried about whether this is going to work at all due to my age. And the comment from the nurse has me worried about the one that's far back.

I also am going back to school for esthetics in March. I'm so worried about trying to bring in clients with two giant gaps in my mouth. It looks so unprofessional. I suppose I won't be doing any smiling. I hope I don't look too off-putting.

Hey guys. Been a long time since I've updated. My canine never moved and I'm going forward with the extraction in a couple weeks. To those who have had it removed, how long was the recovery?

Hello all, been a canny while since I posted on here so thought I would update with my situation. I had an x-ray a few weeks ago and my tooth hasn't moved a significant amount so have made the decision to get my impacted canine taken out and an implant fitted. Both my ortho and myself agree we have spent an adequate amount of time trying to pull the impacted tooth and so have to draw the line somewhere as I don't want to be braced for years and years. I am more than happy with this decision. Having the surgery done tomorrow under "happy air" sedation. Christmas dinner will be fun with a sore mouth! I will update this page with how it went and a before and after pic for those of you that like those kinda details teehee. I have been reading the past few pages and there seem to be quite a lot of success story's so I am hoping my experience can give hope to those who need to go along plan B with their impacted canines.

I'm going with plan B! Just wondering how your healing is going?

I went back to ortho yesterday and had 2 chain links removed. I had my exposure on nov 5th. They tightened it again and felt confident i should be able to have 2 more links removed in next months visit and that the tooth is very close. I am hoping so!!!

Yes! I was hoping you see this and respond. I'm nervous about timing as I'm scheduled to have the impacted tooth extraction four weeks before my wedding day. Is this cutting it too close??

I can only comment from my own experience and my experience as I said before was absolutely fine. No pain afterwards, no discomfort, I took precaution when eating for the first few days but within a week my stitches had dissolved and my gum was healing nicely, it's amazing how fast your body mends itself. I guess you've just got to think about how you deal with pain and healing times etc and base it around that. The last thing you would want is to be in discomfort for your wedding day...

I just wanted to share my success story! I have been lurking on this board for years before I got my braces hoping the adult tooth would come down! I'm so happy it's here! Now it's time to fix my posterior crossbite :) . I wish u all good luck and hope my story helps you

I just had my ortho visit yesterday and they said that the tooth is fused to the bone. I'm confused, cause it has moved slightly but they now recommend that I extract my tooth and do the implant which is rather costly. I have received no real information from my ortho. She even asked me why I got my hopes up. I got my hopes up cause SHE told me there was a possibility it would have come down and she's now backtracked. So now I have to meet with my dentist tomorrow.

I'm just so aggravated at this whole ordeal that I have to struggle to pay for. I'm sorry to gripe on here but it's just such a disappointment after so long of hoping. And I feel pain and pressure at the tooth. What does that mean? That it's moving? That its resisting the tugging??

The OS did say that it "appeared" that it was fused when he went in to attach the nub and remove the baby tooth. But the Ortho said it MAY still move, It has moved but not alot. If it is fused - would it move??? I feel pressure and lately intense pressure on that tooth inside. When I went for my visits I asked if pressure is good she said yes thats very good. I wouldn't go through all this pain while knowing there was no chance of it coming down.

So I don't know what to think now. Hopefully I'll have answers when I go back to chat with the OS cause thats whats frustrating over all, is the lack of information. It's like my ortho was shooting in the dark to maintain the braces - No foresight or plan?

It's heartbreaking but it happens. My oral surgeon said it wiggled just fine and chipped away bone, made it a nice path, and after a year of trying it still didn't move. I'm having mine extracted next week.
