New To Braces

#1 Post by Hailz94 »

I live in New Zealand, I'm 21. And I got braces put on yesterday the 25/02/2016
I'm in soo much pain not just the brackets but 1 wire poking out, the ortho only gave me wax and travel toothbrush nothing else (WHICH I had to buy the other stuff online)
I don't know what to do, the wax keeps falling out and one thing is that when I blob wax on it the wire goes through it and it falls apart :(
I cannot handle pain at all !! </3

You should put the wax on the brackets when that particular area is dry. Don't be afraid to use more wax to cover it! Mine tend to fall out when I eat. I'll just put more later.

I'm onto my second week in braces and I get what you are saying. As mentioned make sure your bracket is dry. Use a tissue to wipe it then get a corn kernels size bit of wax and put it gently to cover whole bracket. Gargling with a cup of warm water and a bit of salt may help soothe and sores. Take paracetamol or ibuprofen to help with the pain. If you can tolerate it the ibuprofen (nurofen in Australia) will be better as it is also an anti inflammatory. Hang in there.
As each day passes I'm getting closer and closer to my dream smile.

If your wire is pokey, you can certainly call the ortho office and have them trim it down. As far as pain goes, it happens to every brace wearers. The first month is probably the hardest but eventually it'll get better from there.

First, congratulations on starting your journey. The first few weeks are the worst, for sure, but it will get better. A little tip about wax: sometimes more is not better, in terms of the size of the blob you attach (I know others have advised otherwise, so as you can see things are a bit individualized). If it's too large it gets knocked of the bracket by your tongue or friction from your lips. Start with B-B sized pieces. Your saliva may be making the brackets too slippery, so rinse your mouth with warm water first and see if that helps with adhesion. I also cursed a great deal which seemed to help  . If possible see if you can return to the ortho to get that wire trimmed. It may have been fine when you left the office but I think teeth movement can cause the wire to stick out of the last bracket.

I assume you're putting the wax back on the molar where the wire pokes out? I've had a poky wire there since August so I know this struggle very well. That spot is such a PITA and you may have to go through a few pieces of wax before you get one that stays put. It gets slightly easier but I still struggle with that, too. Sometimes it helps if you warm the wax up in your hand a bit, first.

Next time you see your ortho, don't be afraid to ask what kind of complimentary supplies they have for patients. Mine has all sorts of goodies they'll only give you if you ask for by name.

Congrats on getting your braces. The pain will go away. Mine lasted about 5 days. Ask your ortho for supplies every time you see him/her. The wax should be smaller than pea size before applying to your wire/bracket. If it sticks to the wire and the wire still pikes out, the ortho will need to either bend it inward or cut it down.

Does your jaw kind of spasm and cause you to involuntarily bite? That happened to me when I first got braces. Lasted a couple of months and then went away. Only happens on the rare occasion now.

I feel your pain as I"m on my 6th day. Check with your ortho. If the wire is normal you'll get used to it, but if the wire actually popped out of the bracket the ortho can either trim it, bend it back or put it back where it belongs. Everybody here is very helpful and encouraging and they seem to have a solution for everything, even if it just means letting you know it's all normal. Hang in there and keep us posted.

Hi guys

Ahout a year ago I've had some root canals and crowns and a couple fillings

Ever since my teeth keep closing on eachother randomly like sometimes the top hits the bottom or the side hits the side and so on

I also have a painful feeling on the left side of my teeth which comes and goes

I've been to several dentists and specialist
They say there is nothing wrong with my teeth
Also nothing wrong with my alignment

Did anyone ever had a similar problem and if so did you find a solution

I would really appreciate it

This is seriously ruining my life

Thank you

I haven't had that issue, but did they have any idea what the issue might be if it's not dental? Did they actually investigate your bite or take any radiography? Were the consults comprehensive or were they freebies? Assuming that you have had a comprehensive exam, my next step would be to see an ENT specialist. Best of luck to you.
