I think you're going through the same thing everybody goes through, especially if you're an adult. I believe the vast majority off people on this board are here to ask, "Does it get better," and it really does. I have the dreaded molar buildups and thought I'd never be able to eat again. I don't like them but it only took a couple of days before I was eating all the crap I used to eat.

Aren't those build ups the worst?! I have them too.

Don't worry, it'll all get better!!! I was so upset my first few days because they looked awful, I felt like everyone was staring at me, I couldn't eat or enjoy anything and I was in so much pain, I wanted to go back and beg them to take them off and thought I'd made a huge mistake. The pain slowly went away after a week or two, and I'm 6 weeks in and can bite soft sandwhiches and pizza now with my front teeth! I still mostly tear or cut up my food and try to chew on the sides, though I have bite turbos which make it really annoying to chew. But, like the others, I can talk properly now, I can eat a lot better, there's no pain (besides a VERY slight dull ache on different teeth every now and then, but it's how I know what ones are moving that day!) and no one even notices I have them.

Hang in there, in a few weeks you'll reflect on this day and wonder what it was even like! You're doing great so far, keep it up!!!

I am not an emotional person, but I cried on the 3rd day. Just sat and cried.

After a couple weeks, it was fine. I still can't bite into things, and stuff like salad is really a pain in the a** and I still sometimes get frustrated. We were at Olive Garden the other night and I was all like "Just take the croutons away so I can't see them!"

I have really thin wires right now, coupled with some lovely molar buildups, so I already bent one twice on BREAD so it's been an ordeal. It will get better. But ... it does suck!

We were at Olive Garden over the weekend too! Everyone else had the croutons, I tried about three bites of salad before giving up. I had the cheese tortellini which was easy to eat but the stringy cheese topping wrapped around my wires like crazy! And little pieces of tomatoe got stuck under the brackets. I popped into the restroom halfway through to clean things up. And I ate the breadsticks with a fork. :-*

I was also at Olive Garden this weekend! Staring at my friend eating salad and breadsticks was touture! It was my first meal out with braces and I had 2 bowls of soup and linguini with Alfredo. I'm still hesitant to eat anything red even though Damon clear is not supposed to stain. Can brushing your teeth make a wire bend? I haven't thought of bending wires....mine is thin right now.

You know, the only time i seriously bent a wire the whole time ive had braces was eating cheesecake with crushed White Chocolate Reeses PB cups, not sure if it was the Reeses (harder because of refrigeration?) Or using my tongue to try to get the pieces out from under the wire.

Other times i gently bent bent (also from eating chocolate (the cookies and cream bunnies)) wires back into place

I suppose in early wires many things can bend them
Lots of crimes here

1. The upper molars bite too far ahead of the lower molars

2. Missing teeth #s 9, 14, and, 29

3. Open bite

4. Upper midline left of center

5. Lower midline right of center

6. Upper and lower teeth not straight

Sentence - 24 months, turned to 27 month.

Braces removed since 11/06/17

Wires early on are pretty light and flexible. A lot of times, molars won't be engaged because chewing forces can pop the light wires right out of the tubes/slots on molar bands.

Fear not, everyone will be enjoying Olive Garden salad and breadsticks in no time. You just might be stuck until you get to a heavier wire.

Had to go in today and get my molar build ups built up more. Top teeth were touching front brackets. I'm a night grinder so that caused them to wear down in 13 days. It certainly wasn't from chewing since I haven't really started to chew yet. Now my left cheek is tearing up on the inside from the sharp buildup. Mine are not round, but more like sharp blue triangle daggers. This too shall pass like it did the first time. I almost poked a hole in my finger last night touching a back bracket and hitting a wire. It stabbed me! Those are sharp little suckers.

Tyrantblade I'll be more mindful now when eating my chocolate chip ice cream!

Carrieann I've done that! I've been feeling around the back bracket to check the wire that's poking be and full on stabbed myself in the thumb - it actually punctured my thumb and made it bleed! I showed the wound to my colleagues in an attempt to elicit sympathy but nobody cared and all I got was, 'Well stop fiddling with it then!' I guess I really do need to leave things alone but it's hard when it's causing me so much pain!

If you pop in to your orthodontist they can clip any pokie wires in seconds. I usually just call and warn them I'm coming, no need to make a whole real appointment. Also no reason to live with the wire sticking out where it can poke you.

Everybody knows how the first week feels like...
I usually don't cry but omg first day I sat down and just cried. Second day I got hit in the mouth by a friend, it was an accident but I wanted to murder her on the spot. It was better for me after TWO days, lucky me.

Trust me if you passed the spacers phase, and the first week, rest of the treatment is going to be a breeze

Stay strong

It took a little longer than the others have said for me to not be in pain every single day. I did have my wire removed and glue scraped between some teeth after only 3.5 weeks and that was probably the cause of such pain. At the time I was so worried thinking the worst. Thinking that I can't take 2 years of this and feeling depressed BUT at about the 6.5 week mark the pain went and I no longer was sore and so conscious of them. Hang in there it does get better. Just think we've all been there. Keep your eye on the prize and take pictures. In a short amount of time you'll notice changes and then you'll be so glad you took the courageous step towards your perfect smile. Whenever I'm feeling like what the $&@) have I done I look at the pictures and see how far I've come.
As each day passes I'm getting closer and closer to my dream smile.

Hey guys,

Thanks a lot for the help and replies.

Thought I'd update you! It took only 4 days for the pain to go away and 6 days for me to not even notice they are there. I can't eat normally and peacefully now. So happy all is good as my finals start next week. I get braces on my lower teeth next week too. And actually even though it took 6 days for me to get used to them, for about 10 days every time I woke up my mouth felt weird and like it was being stretched but I don't feel like that anymore.

People told me it would get better and I hair didn't believe it could. But trust me, it does!

I'm so happy I have them, can't wait for my new and improved teeth :)
