Closing a large diastema

Really great result Dee!! My diastema is closing too - it's the first space we're closing actually. I know you are ready to have those braces taken off - congrats on surviving your treatment thus far You are gonna love it when they're off and you have straight beautiful teeth!

Yes, parsleysage, that's absolutely right. I really can hardly WAIT to get these things off, though! It feels like I've been in them forever. I've been trying to start dating again and believe me when I say finding a guy who is oblivious to them (or doesn't care) has been a real struggle.

I also wanted to mention that I have finally found someone to be part of my life. He seems absolutely oblivious to all my hardware and tells me that he thinks I'm beautiful. I honestly think he's the one I've been waiting for and searching for since my husband passed away 8 years ago. Wish me luck!

I am scheduled to get my braces off on December 8!!! I am SO happy. My orthodontist is now going about trying to give me a little bit of an overbite so that when they put in the bonded retainer behind my upper incisors I won't be bashing into it every time I close my mouth. So, right now I have a bit of a space between my left front incisor and my left front eye tooth but I'm sure it will close. All the bottom teeth are lined up like little ducks in a row and I am about 99% happy with my treatment. Can not WAIT to get these things out of my mouth!

Dec 8 2014, Just got back from the orthodontist and BRACES ARE HISTORY!!! I am SO happy with my result I could have just kissed him. He did such a fabulous job. Entire diastema closed with only one small black triangle on the upper right eye tooth. I look like a movie star!!! Could not be happier at this moment. Every single second was SO WORTH IT and then some!!

What kind of retainer(s) did you get?

Hi, Thank you! Yes, I am very, very happy. They put bonded retainers behind my two top front teeth and behind the front bottom teeth. I am going back this afternoon around 3:30 to pick up 2 Essix retainers to wear at night in bed, I think. He did not think he was going to be able to close the space on the top completely but he did! I could hot be happier with my results! Not too much longer for you, I see. I'm looking forward to your updated photos!

The elastic chain provides extra force to help move teeth faster. I had a 6+mm diastema between my upper front teeth before braces. I got the elastic chain on my 3rd adjustment. The gap slowly started to close, but new gaps formed. Now I have the elastic chain on all of my upper teeth, and the original gap is about 1.5 mm wide, and all of the other gaps have closed. I've been in braces since October, so I'd say it will be fully closed by next month at the rate we're going. The reason for my gap was because of an enlarged labial frenum. This frenum was very large, so it was removed when my gap was still around 4mm wide. After the frenectomy, (removal of the frenum) the gap rapidly started to close (it closed almost 1mm during the first night.)
