Powerchains before teeth are straighten?
Hi everybody. So my ortho decided to put on a full powerchain for my upperteeth to close the gaps from extractions I had. The thing is, I still have a tooth that isn't aligned yet and I'm wondering how a powerchain would affect that(will the tooth still straighten out?). Is this normal? Wouldn't it make sense to have ALL the teeth aligned properly first and then have the powerchains to close the gaps? It's really my fault for not asking my ortho but I get so intimidated and what do I know?

None of your teeth are aligned because you have extractions.
So just chill out and let the professional with many years training and experience do their job.

I'm not an ortho, but at least in my case multiple simultaneous movements across various planes was the rule during my three year course that included elastics, powerchains, and closing coils. It would be a reasonable question for your ortho, and it may help to write it out to help give you a little bump in courage. You already have a lot of that, obviously. You're in braces! Best of luck to you!

My first set of powerchains came after a bunch of alignment and rotating. I had a month or so off from powerchains after surgery because I had been downgraded to lighter wires, but when I went back into powerchains, I had a few bends in the wire to fix small alignment issues. Definitely ask your ortho.

I had my powerchains put on immediately after my extractions, which happened about a month into braces. My teeth were still super crowded at that point. My teeth have straightened out quite a bit and my gaps have closed up considerably since then (although it's still all a work in progress). Still in powerchains 6 months later.

I am in the same position. I have 1 tooth above and 1 tooth below that are not fully aligned yet and today I had power chains applied to both arches. I don't know what to expect but to be honest I was happy because I really want the extraction gaps to shrink even if alignment isn't yet 100%. I have huge gaps anyway so if the teeth fail to align, maybe they will replace the power chains with ligatures some time later down the road.
