Its on :(

#1 Post by Blurple »

it feels huge! I've got a bite block on one side too...

Just attempting to eat a soft pastry and feels like I'll never be able to eat normally again :(

I've got a power chain to help close the gap too, so guessing this will hurt later, but trying to think positive and pain = movement.

Also, after spending many hours trying to decided which colour ligature to get (opted for navy blue) I didn't get asked and they just put silver on, so I guess I'll need to say earlier next time.

Congrats and best of luck on your journey, the general consensus seems to be that the first two weeks are the hardest so hang in there

My first week sucked! I was so unhappy and full of regret. Now I mostly forget they are on! Don't worry it gets better :D

Thanks everyone - I just don't know how I'm ever going to eat properly with the bite block... hopefully I'll get used to it...

(they had a chart of all the different coloured ligs on the wall - so will ask up from next time)

I had bite blocks/bite turbos for 8 months, hated them so much at first as they took away my only contact points from top to bottom teeth (i had a really bad Anterior Open Bite, so my top teeth were so wonky), I know it was for the best, but I hated it so much at first and then every time they rebuilt them.

So glad I'm far past that, but over the course of my treatment it's been one thing after the next annoying me.

So just know that you should enjoy whatever victories you can get.
Lots of crimes here

1. The upper molars bite too far ahead of the lower molars

2. Missing teeth #s 9, 14, and, 29

3. Open bite

4. Upper midline left of center

5. Lower midline right of center

6. Upper and lower teeth not straight

Sentence - 24 months, turned to 27 month.

Thanks - it feel like I'll never be able to chew anything ever :(

the block is a small pointy thing so no grinding surface what so ever - did you end up on soft foods for 8 months?

Congrats. I think you will get used and you will soon be able chew hard food.
How do you find the silver ligature ?

Mine were a cement like thing they put on my bottom molars, so every 2 months or so they were almost worn down to nothing, then inevitably they rebuilt them and it was back to step 1, and no I wasn't on soft foods the whole 8 months.

once I got past the times when chewing was too painful; which was right after adjustments, all I had to do was find a way to chew, it was a little hard and awkward, but I got used to it the same way I was used to eating with an extremely bad Anterior Open Bite (the 2 Orthodontists I had consultations with seemed baffled as to how I ate at all, as did the assistant at my second consultation (i dont remember the title, but she looked over my teeth, explained my case and took pictures before I met the Orthodontist))

Thank you - the silver legs are pretty invisible to be honest, and the power chain is clear too. It was only this morning thatI realised the power chain went across the front three, I thought it was either side of the gap.

Thanks that makes me feel better - mine is the blue cement stuff too.

I've also been amazed (touching wood here!) how little it has hurt, was expecting to be in agony for 5 days, but my front teeth feel a little tender (very sore to brush) but apart from that its been minimal.

I've had my ceramics fitted this afternoon, I also have a bite block. Man, it's difficult to chew! I'm currently eating mash potato with white fish which is very nice... remind me of that when I'm still eating it in a years time ;)

It's hard to imagine eating solid food at the moment. Any eating tips? Does it just wear down over time and that's when you can chew again?

You can chew a lot easier when you get past pain from adjustments, but yes they also wear down over time, plus it will be a lot more comfortable to eat as your smile and bite gets better over time.

The thing I hated the most besides adjusting to them was when my Orthodontist rebuilt them (which they did twice before they left them alone and then removed what was left at the appointment after that one)

I'm not in pain yet as they've only been on a few hours. They said the next few days might be a bit tender. So I could have had a decent meal if it wasn't for these pesky bite blocks :)
