Hello all. First, I'm sorry if this isn't the right place for the topic.
My problem is, I have a strange taste in the very back of my braces, specifically in the metal bands. Now, I know you'd think I don't brush or clean the brackets but I really do brush them in the morning and before bed and after every meal and I use a mouthwash too because I KNOW if I don't take care of them my mouth will be dirty. Yet I still have that strange rotten-like taste. I tried to clean the tiny holes where the wire goes in but the interdental brush can't get inside.
Any advise on this issue? Thank you in advance.
"rotten" taste in the molar bands?

Re: "rotten" taste in the molar bands?
Did you just get the bands recently?
My understanding is the "glue" used on bands is different than the bonding agent for regular brackets. In my case, not all the glue got wiped off the rest of the tooth when one of my (many) bands was placed, so I could taste it for a bit. It wasn't horrible, but not pleasant, either.
If they're not new, then my guess is the band has come at least partially loose. In that case, the broken bond could be letting food and drink in, even in that minuscule space between the band and the tooth surface. Can you move the band at all? If you can, get it fixed right away. I think a phone call and a precautionary visit to your ortho is in order regardless.
Good luck!

Re: "rotten" taste in the molar bands?
I had my braces on the tenth of December and I noticed this issue after about a week from breaking bits of the glue that covered the bands down to the gums. No I can't move them at all, they don't come lose or even move, which is good because it means they are secured. I didn't feel that taste at the clinic or even at the first week of getting them applied, and when I brush now I can taste it even more as if the brushing aggravates it or tries to clean something that rotted in it.
I indeed plan on letting my orthodontist know about this issue and maybe he could give my molars a clean when I see him next week. what I can do now is dip the interdental brush into some mouth wash to pick the liquid within the bristles and gently clean around the holes which hold the metal wire until I see the orthodontist next week. Thank you, Farmboy.
