A new wire...

#1 Post by jimmy18 »

I have had my top braces on since the first of August. The first wire I recieved was a number 15 at my first adjustment I received a number 19. But yesterday at my second adjustment They put on a number 14 and it feels different from my first two wires.

The first two looked like

----------------
////////////////
----------------

With what seemed to be grooves or notches in between.

Now the newest wire is smaller than the first two and looks like.

------------------
------------------

It is smaller and really smooth.

Does anyone know what this means?

So, you don't know what the change in wires mean, or why I have went to a smaller wire?

No. I am sorry to say. All I know is that the square wires I wore as a kid really hurt. I think it is because they exerted a lot of twisting force on my teeth.

I had the same thing.
First two months the //// and now since two months a normal wire. I Maryten found the good answer to your question.
For me the change to the new wire was a bit painfull.

Well thanks to both of you for the replies.

I just assumed that since my first two wires that they were the normal ones, but I guess the NiTi or regular round smooth ones are the normal.

That picture looks like the wire that I got at my last adjustment (8th month) its much thicker then the other wires I've had and took a few days the inside of my mouth to adjust to it. My dentist called it a braided wire.
